View Full Version : 75 hsp engine
I currently have a 40hsp Force on a 16' Fisher and am looking to upgrade to a 75 hsp 2 stroke with oil injection. I would like to hear some ideas on what brand to go with as well as pro's and con's to eachbrand. I'm willing to pay for quality but don't really know what a good price is. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Don,
Thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in on this one..I'd say, figure out what your main use will be-slow back trolling or running wide open to get to the spot or pulling the ankle-biters around on the tube and skis..Slow backtrolling (or pulling boards) I think I'd go with a 4 stroker if it were me..Great fuel mileage and wonderful for trolling..Buddy of mine has a 60 hp Suzuki and the thing sips fuel and trolls all day @ idle..For running and gunning and pulling the curtain-climbers around the lake, I really like the tourque of my 75 hp Mariner..It trolls OK for awhile and then loads up a bit (after 3 or 4 hours) so my vote goes to the 4 strokers..Use good oil in the 2 stroke and it won't smoke that much, and if you go w/a synthetic, hardly at all..Like I said, just my 2 cents worth..
Sounds like the 4 stroke is the way to go. I've done some checking in my area as well as the message boards and that seems to be what everyone os saying. Thanks for the input. Also, in my area (western South Dakota) it seems that the susuki is a popular choice. Have you heard any downfalls to this engine? Thanks again for the input!
I haven't heard anything bad about the Suzuki 4-strokes. The only problem is if you need service a dealer might not be next door. However since the Evinrude 70 is a Suzuki with a different paint job, Evinrude dealers will probably be working on them.
I have a Honda 75 hp. But If I could of got a Suzuki or Evinrude for the same money, I probably would have. Mainly to because of the weight difference and electronic fuel injection.
Good luck,
Fritz

i have a 90 75hp 2 cycle Suzuki,( also called,Japans Industrial Marine engine block). i almost did not buy the boat last year because i never heard of a Suzuki on a Lund-however of all the used boats i looked at it was the best boat by far, and the owner promised it was a great engine. Now i am glad to have it, it is a great engine, pushes my 1660 strong and without falter. have a merc 9.9 kicker so i dont know about trolling with the 75-the 4 stokes are better for that, but i hear they are insufferable gas hogs at low rpm-good luck

With all the postings about Ficht injection problems, and frozen motors due to bad oil injection pumps, why would anyone want one? Take my suggestion and if you've been happy with your Force, buy a clean used one in the horsepower range you're looking for.
