Looking at a 2001 1800 pro V, it is rated for the 175 but I think that the opti is a better motor than the EFI, also I herd that merc may be making a 175 opti. Any comments would be valued.

Thanks, Mark

I've got the 2000 1800 Pro V SE with the Merc 175 efi. I've underpowered a boat in the past and that is the reason I went with the 175 efi over the 150 opti. I love the rig. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that a 150 opti will push the boat just fine, but for resale purposes, and so that I'm never asking myself "what if...", I maxed it out with the 175 efi. I've also heard that there is a 175 opti coming out. I don't know if this is rumor or not. Also, at the time that I picked up my rig (early last summer) there were many negative discussions on this board regarding opti problems, there was no way that I was buying an opti with all that negativism flying around. However, it looks as though Merc has the bugs worked out. If a 175 opti is available, personally I would go with it. I must say though that I love my 175 efi.

Best Regards,

My dealer says he has 175 Optis in stock and ready to go, so they must be well into production. He also said that all Optis are Digital for 2001, but that the gauge package is still optional. Not sure what exactly that means, but there you go.

Absolutely correct, 175 OPTIMAX is ready to ship and many dealers already may have them in stock. If it is as great as my 200, you will love it!

I ordered a new Ranger 692vs in 1998 with a '98 150 Opti. The boat is rated for 175. I had lot's of problems with the Opti. and traded the motor after 16 months for a Merc. 175 EFI. It was like having a totally different boat. The 150 did OK, but I didn't realize how underpowered the boat was until I put the 175 on it.

Maybe the Opti's are de-bugged enough now to trust them. If so, I'd suggest the 175 Opti. or the EFI. My Opti. stayed broke most of the time but, when it was running, the gas mileage and oil consumption was fantastic.
