I am thinking of putting a TR-1 Autopilot Liberator in my boat. I know when they first came out they had problems with it and there service was lousy. Has things changed since 1997. Or should I think of using something else. Thanks

I have been running one for two years. I installed it with the help of a friend and have been very please with it. (although, I would recommend proffessional installation to save time and headaches). I have found the TR1 folks to be very responsive to questions.

Hey Lance,
Have you checked out the Panter Electro-Steer yet? It doesn't have the compass, but is about half the cost of the TR-1, and it works great. Only a 4 second response time from side to side too. I have used both, and find the Electro-Steer easier to use for the applications I used them for.

If you haven't heard of the Panther Electro-Steer, give Eric Olsen at Panther Marine a call at..1-800-811-5960 X-115, and he can give you all the details.

Either way, whichever you choose... it's a great tool to have on the boat! You'll pat yourself on the back for being so smart..heheh

Hey Juls,
How does it work out when you have line crossing and need two people to reel in while battling high seas. Does it have a hand control to keep with you while reeling in your boards. I got turned around a couple times last year during the Fleet Farm open. Very fustrating.
Thanks

You bet'cha it has a hand control (two buttons). Works just like the TR-1 but doesn't have the compass feature.

Sounds like the panther still needs to be steered for corrections where as the TR1 corrects when blown off course?? Any more input Juls?

He can answer all the question much better than I can. I will give him a call and see if he will help you out.

Yes, that is what I meant by the Electro-Steer not having a compass.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-24-01 AT 08:17AM (CST)[p]Juls called me and siad I HAD to get in on this one :-)

The Electro -Steer does have a small hand control that WILL allow you to reel in OR net fish and still have complete control of the kicker.

We are working on a throttle control as well as other add-ons that will enhance the performance of the existing Electro Steer. So this should anwer the question regardng the compass heading control.

TR-1 and the Electro Steer are both quality products. I think it's all in what you want for features and what you can afford to pay for them. I also know that there are a lot of folks out there that have used (PWT or RCL Pro-Am) the unit or are using them now. Those are the unbiased parties that will give you the REAL scoop... I'll let them give you the testimonials!
