I am picking up interferance from the locator on my VHF while in scan mode and can't seem to tone it out. I have run a seperate power wire to the radio even went's so far as making it a 2 conductor belden cable with a drain wire laid the neg and drain down together at battery. Problem still contiued so than I put the radio on a totally seperate battery turned on both units and still had the same problem. Than I removed the radio from the boat had the coaxial cable from the antenna totally isolated from all power wires and the radio on a seperate battery started up the locator still had the same problem kind of gabbing at straws here any suggestions will be appreciated. Also should say the antenna is mounted on the side opposite the locateor

Maybe you need a new Vinshield!

That is not an unusual problem.. I have found some units just give off too much stray impulses , it is hard to isolate . Try wrapping dpth finder and cable with aluminum foil to see if it tht type of problem.. Some units just cause problems.., best bet if that is the case, yard sale one and buy another

I had a noise like that in my radio and solved it by moving the antenna to the other side of the boat. With the sounder unit in close to the radio antenna the clicking of the sounder was enough to stall the scan. With the antenna mover about 7' away the noise stopped. Use a remote antenna on the other side to see if it stops. Good luck....Kaz

Kaz thanks for the reply but the antenna is already mounted on the other side of the boat from the locator. They are about 6' apart. I also tried sheilding the locator and cabels with tin foil so much so you would almost think Elvis was rigging this thing and it's still pinging away on the radio.

What type of radio and sounder do you have? This might help us figure out the problem.
