The update says "COMING SOON". It must not be ready yet.
Lance
Where did you see that?? I checked the web site and did not see anything about a 1.8 update.
The update was on Lowrance web page on 4/23/2001 in the morning but they took it off in the afternoon. Something must have changed.

WHAT NOW? DID SOMEONE HAVE MORE TROUBLE? HAVENT HAD A CHANCE TO GET MY DUCER WET YET AND IM ON MY 4th UPGRADE! DONT MIND A BIT IF THEY STAY ON TOP OF #####! ANY BETS ON HOW HIGH WE GET BY OPENER..... COME ON!
More trouble indeed! Finally got the boat in this last weekend, the LCX-15MT sonar worked for about half the day. The problem is with the unit apparently sending to much power to the 200Khz crystal. The depth on my unit blinks at 60' for 200Khz and at 100' for 50Khz. When I called tech support, the person I spoke with informed me that the 1.7.1 software has a bug that when used at 50Khz it will fry the 200Khz crystal! They are shipping me a new transducer.
I do not know how the transducer is constructed, but I would think the 50Khz crystal would still work fine unless they are somehow built as one crystal that can operate at both frequencies? I thought was one for each feq. in the tansducer.
So, do not operate your unit @ 50Khz unless you update to 1.8!
I can handle the software updates and am quite pleased to see them developing solutions for the bugs so quickly, but when it starts wrecking my hardware, the blood starts to boil. What if I were out of warranty?
Anyone else have a similar experience?
Good Luck,
BWS
I am having that same exact problem, and mine also worked the first time we had it out. In fact a new transducer is on it's way to me as of today. Today was the first time I got the explanation about the software frying the crystal, and I've been down for two weeks. First they claimed the 1.71 upgrade would fix it, then didn't release that for another week.
Kind of peeved that Lowrance charged me $10 to get 2nd day air shipping too. You'd think that for the kind of money these units cost and the fact that their software broke the ##### thing they would overnight it at no charge. I have been buying Lowrance for 10 years, but this deal is starting to #### me off!
IF YOU HAVE A 50/200 TRANSDUCER DO NOT USE 50MHZ UNTIL YOU HAVE 1.81 UPDATE, or you will end up with a $1000 boat anchor
I wonder how many transducers they will replace as a result of poor software development?
What stinks is that this is a known issue and people will continue to fry tranducers unless they happen to read this.
Lowrance needs a mailing list for users of these products, it would save them time and money and make us more likely to be return customers. It would be nice if you could sign up on the web for this service. Lowrance, I hope your hearing what your customers are saying.

I DIDNT PURCHASE THE DUAL TRANSDUCER BECAUSE I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE 50KHZ WAS MORE FOR DEEP WATER AND THAT FOR THE FRESH WATER LAKES I FISH,I WOULD BE JUST FINE WITH THE 200! SO AM I TO BELEIVE THAT THE 1.8V IS JUST TO FIX THIS DUAL FREQ. PROBLEM? I SUPPOSE I SHOULD UPGRADE ANYWAY JUST IN CASE I EVER SELL IT AND THE NEXT GUY WANTS TO GET THE DUAL TRANS. WHEN I WENT TO THE LOWRANCE WEB SITE I COULDN'T FIND THE UPDATE!?
Much to my surprise the replacement 50/200 Transducer arrived today. Surprising because just yesterday they agreed to send me a new one and wanted to charge me for 2nd day air. So here it is the very next day! Go figure.
Now if they get the software fixed and released, I should be in business again. Just checked Lowrance web site and don't see ANY software updates at all on the website for x15.

I just got my unit back from the Hopital. I sent it in 4-19-01. They wanted me to send it in with my Navionics Hotmap MMC. When it was returned there was no note explaining what they did. I hooked it up and turned it on to see what software version was in it. it said 1.7. I turned it off, put in Navionics MMC and restarted it. I bought 5 lakes, Winneconne, Poygan, Butte Des Mortes, Castle Rock, Geneva, Winnebago, and Little Bay de Noc. I went to Winne, Poygan, Butte and looked around for a little.------NO PROBLEMS--- Looked at LBdN--- NO PROBLEMS. I zoomed in and out at different areas of the lakes and no problems. This is just a quick update. I didn't have a lot of time. I only played for 15 minutes. I will play around longer at a different time and give some more updates. Wish me good luck and good luck to all of you. Stephen

Man, I'm jealous!!! I wish Pinpoint offered user-updatable software. I've never sent mine in for update--can't bear to be without it!
If you're listening, Pinpoint, we want user-update capabilities!

Well I'm having a small problem with the Navionics maps!
When I zoom in and hit 1.06 on the Winnebago/Poygan map it blanks out like b/f, but I zoom out and come back in and it's fine??
I e-mailed Lowrance so far no response, like usual.I guess I'll have to live with it.Also I asked them to put a button on there so we can turn off the names of waypoints.I might be talking to wall on that one.
Good luck everyone.

Moose,
If your zooming into the overlap area of Winniebago from a few miles east of oshkosh to just west of oshkosh it will do that. Mine does that too, and I seen a post from another guy that had it happen. Can you say bug! :-(

What about the guys who don't have a computer and are not tuned in to Walleye Central? They would have no idea of this never ending series of unsuccessful, afterthaught "patchups". They must still be thinking that they bought a quality unit that is "ready to go, right out of the box". The long line of disgruntaled Lowrance customers will get a lot longer as these guys find out the truth about their $1000.lemons. How many people at Lowrance have been fired so far????
Jethro
I have an X-15 but I have not put my boat in the water and tried to use it yet. I have updated the unit several times and I hope it works well. But I learned form my dad always have back up which I do. I have a Si-Tex 106 so if the X15 on opener fails I have this unit. After seeing all the updated and complaining about this unit, I won't be disappointed if it dose'nt work properly. Lowrance has been very good to me over the years and I know they will work it out. I hope it is not another Ficht problem like OMC had.
