Stopped by Joe's Sporting Goods in St Paul this week they were advertising a sale on reels. I was interested in looking at and pricing either a Shimmano Symetre or a Pinnacle Deadbolt. After looking at both the salesman had me look at the Diawa Regal Z. I was rather impressed with the feel, quality and most of all the price in comparison to the Shimmano and the Pinnacle. Does anyone have any feed back on the Diawa. I never have been much of fan of their reels in the past but they may have a winner here.

I bought two of them last summer after my pinnacle puked on me. So far they have performed flawlessly, thinking about getting a couple more.
bought one a few months ago really like it . better than my other reels.

I have owned both Shiamano and Diawa. I now lean more towards Diawa for spinning reels. I have one Regal Z and two Emblem S. I would highly recommend either. I think the drag is very smooth, no surging. The larger diameter spool is nice, the line doesn't get as packed on and I don't notice as much twisting. If that reel is anywhere $42 or less it is a good buy, you wouldn't be disappointed. Keep your eye out for the Emblem S also. Diawa has stopped making them and a lot of places have put them on clearance.
Good luck

I was in the market for a pair of Symetre's too. Bought two regal Z's when I saw them on clearance. I have two older Diawa spinning reels and a baitcaster that is only two yrs. old, no problems with them. Hoping my new Regal's work out as well. I couldn't see shelling out the additional money for essentially equal reels. Good luck making up your mind.

I've had one for about 6 years. Very smooth but bail strigger failed after one season, and bail would often fly shut when casting. Maybe mine was a dud, who knows. I do love the smoothness it has.
