I found the discussion below in the archives, I am in the process of mounting Cannon mag20's on my 692. I was hoping to hear from Whitetip or Quicksilver on specifics for mounting the deck plate... or anyone who has mounted this set-up in place of the step plate. I was considering using JB-WELD epoxy to secure two aluminum bars to the inside top under the step plate, then drill and tap for 1/4 20 1.5" bolts, then just bolt the deckplate down. Sounds good in theory, but am worried about things lining up, and the epoxy holding the bars while they are drilled and tapped.

Whitetip- where did you drill the access hole, in the deck plate or somewhere else?

Qicksilver- How did you mount your deckplate?

Robert,
I have two cannon downriggers on my 690 they work great. First you will need two 6 inch cannon pedastals and swivel bases. Remove the rear step plates and mount the pedastals here. I used bolts to mount the bases, you will need some long arms to reach the bolts or a hole saw to cut an access.I hope this helps.

I have 692 and have mine mounted like Whitetip. I removed the step plates on each side, mounted Cannon deck plates, then mounted the Cannon pedestals to the deck plates with the thumb-wheel type bolts. That way, I can easily remove the pedestals if I want them out of the way. It's a neat looking mount. I have a buddy with a 690 who uses the same scheme.

If I had a Ranger or similar boat, I'd install the stainless internal rod holders and use Cannon's gimbal bases which insert into the holders. It works well in use and looks great when you remove the downriggers--leaving just an internal rod holder.
