I just installed a holder in my boat on saturday. I just used one of the plastic single rod holder tubes (the tubes designed to store your rods in a vertical position). Cabela's has them available in either single or a bank of three i believe. Dimensions are approx 1 1/2" dia. x 12"-14" length. Color choice seems to be white or black. I just mounted this to the interior of my boat in an out of the way but within reach place and just slide handle of the net into holder tube. There is no bottom in the cabela's tubes so the handle will slide all the way to the floor and seems like it will be plenty secure so it won't bounce out while traveling at high speeds or on rough water yet is always within arms reach of someone and in a vertical position. Simply slide up and out of tube and start scoopin!! A simple and cheap way to go. I think I paid about $3-$4 from the catalog.. Good luck..RJ

I have a single console boat, and mounted my net holder on the port side - convenient but out of the way, and off the floor.
I simply use a pair of rubber clips that are used for storing the lights on a storage door, or for clipping any other 1 inch diameter rod, or broom. You can often just go to your favorite discount store and get a broom clip. i.e. a snap clip for hanging a broom on a wall. Works fine.

When I had my walk through windshield boat, if underway, I would lay the net between the passenger and side of the boat - to be out of the way and not have a flapping net. This is the reason that I don't like the vertical net storage, flapping net to get in the way. For times that I was fishing, I stored the net vertically, with the net "Down" clipped to a single rubber clip on the floor, beside the walkt through, and another clip mounted on the side of the port console, just below the windshield. I could only mount the net here with the windshield open, becaue of the tilt back angle of the windshield. However, that was fine, because it was always open if we were fishing. The nice thing about this position, was that it was convenient to either the bow or stern fisherperson. If one person was catching a fish, the other person could quickly grab the net and net the fish.
By having the net "down" the wet net simply dripped on the floor, and didn't drip dry when underway, and blow water back on the driver and passengers. Also, there was no net flapping in your face, to distract you and or get in your way while casting. Yes, the handle stuck up above the windshield, but the windshield was there anyway, that you had to avoid while casting.

Take care

I use a net holder made by Bert's Custom Tackle. It bolts right to the floor of my boat and will withstand the pressure of the net being upright while running. They are made of aluminum and very sturdy. If you would like more info e-mail me and I get you their phone #

All of the above are good solutions. Another is the net holder made by Lok-Tite, the same manufacturer for rod holders. They are found in most retail stores, including Gander Mountain. Reeds used to have them if you wanted to order one thru the mail. You can access Reeds from this site.

For a verticle holder, which is MY preference, I bought a 14" section of white PVC pipe from the local hardware having 2" inside diameter and heavy walls. I sanded both openings to round off the sharp edges inside and outside of the cut opening. I then measured and drilled four 1/2" holes into the "front" of the pipe, allowing the bit to touch the "rear" portion (inside the pipe). This rear mark was then drilled to the diameter of the screws/bolts I was planning to mount it with and countersunk slightly. Screws pass through the 1/2" drill hole and into the smaller drill hole and into the wall.

To keep the net from flapping all around I employ an Offshore Release, OR-10 Quick Clip, attached to the net handle at a position that requires the net to be pulled into, thereby, not having much slack (Got this gem from someone on WC - Great Idea!). You leave the clip on all the way through landing the fish. It "pops" when the fish is lifted.

Cost - around $1 (less the clip)!

The "tube" style holders do work. A problem I had with them though is that it commonly will knock off the handle grip as it will catch on the bottom of the holder tube.

Walmart sells a Shimmano velcro rod wraps that I use to strap in the net to a rail on the boat. One by the yoke of the net and one on the handle. Works great!

I have installed one in my boat using 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe also. Any length will do but the longer the better if you use a long handled net. Mine is about 9 inches long and I have it mounted in the rear of the boat off the floor. THen on the floor i mounted the end cap for the 1 1/2 in PVC pipe so that the handle of the net rests inside that. I used a single stainless steel screw to mount the end cap to the floor. Careful what you are screwing into and length of the screw!! Works well and costs only pennies to make. Round over all the sharp edges before mounting.

Nothing worth more when it is made with your bare hands.

Oh! I rounded over the sharp edges using a 3" belt sander. If you move the sandpaper so that it runs on the outside of the belt sander you can round over inside edges of the tube. Use only light pressure at first and wear safety goggles. Finish it off with 60 or 100 grit sandpaper by hand. I recently made 13 vertical rod holders out of the same material, so you may want to get more than just a 12" piece.

I purchased a net holder made specifically for holding the landing net vertical but it is only about two inches long. Had to have something longer so made it by hand. End cap on the floor would have made the two inch holder a little more user friendly and will probably have to do that as I do carry two nets in the boat but only one up vertical at a time.
