I'm looking at getting a 97 Starcraft TP180 from a local dealer. Can anyone tell me the Good the Bad and the Ugly?

I have a 1995 and would be glad to answer any questions also. rcpeterson@prodigy.net. I like the set up - good for trolling and jigging. I usually fish two people, but will fish three or four on extended trips to Erie. Great ride - my wife did not like the big water in our other boat (17 ft aluminum). Now we fish Erie and Green Bay in the spring, when the days can get down right nasty. Let me know what your concerns are and I will be happy to answer them.

I own a 1998 T180 with a 175EFI & 9.9 kicker. It is a very good fishing boat, especially for trolling for walleyes. The two side livewells are large, and I will use them to balance the boat when my 'BIG' partner fishes with me. I do have problems running in the 'walleye chop', 2+ footers. The boat is nose heavy. I have taken several steps to improve the handling in bad water. 1) High Five prop 2) Raised the 175EFI up 1 hole. Both steps help to keep the nose up. I am planning on installing a hydrofoil on the 175EFI for next year, if I don't trade up this winter. Good luck with your boat purchase, and many happy days on the water.

I knew several tourney anlgers had problems with cracks and subsequent leaking compartments. One guy we know(not well) spike a wave hard - cracked the hull - the boat sank and he and his partner barely survived

Hi Hooked,

I did a lot of fishing from a 1999 Starcraft 180t. The tiller version was very impressive. The boat had a very solid and stable ride for its size. Powered by a 75 Merc, (the new ones are rated at 90), it did 40 mph plus. I was impressed with the Starcraft 18 foot tiller. Good Luck in your decision.

Catch A Big One!

I know two guys that have the first year T-180's. They both have sent them back to the factory twice with cracked transoms. Haven't heard of any later models, although very few of the 180's cruising ND.
