View Full Version : Guidewear
Been using Cabelas standard Guidewear for a few years now and cant fault it. Excellent.
Thinking about one of their insulated jackets now. Just how warm are they? Anybody here tried one?
Also like the look of their lightweight Guidewear for summer. Again, anybody tried it yet?
Check the archives. Seems like most people have said that the regular Guidewear is the best because you have plenty of room to layer underneath. Some have said they wear their regulars on the ice. The insulated is just too warm in most conditions. I will be ordering a set of uninsulated Guidewear this spring before the ice is off. And the info on this board has certainly helped me make that decision.

Howdy, Keef
I originally purchased a set of uninsulated Guidewear bibs early this spring, and they have been excellent. I didn't use them on the ice (gotta use the 'ol Carharts for something!) but I did use them as early as March on the Mississippi. They are big enough where I can layer underneath them with no problem.
I was at the Owatonna store last night and the jacket followed me home! I opted for the jacket vs. the parka to wear with the bibs.
It is kinda spendy to get into the Guidewear, but once you have it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it!! As for insulated vs. uninsulated, that's your choice. Personally, I'd buy the uninsulated and layer underneath if needed.
Regards
P.S. I notice that they now offer the bibs in "short". I'm 5'10", 190#, and if they were available when I bought mine, I would have gone with the "short" bibs.
Guess I should have read your post a little closer. You already know the good about the Guidewear! I have a buddy that has the insulated, and he wishes he had bought the uninsulated for "all around" use. Since you already have the standard stuff and are looking for something more cold weather, I'd say go for it!
Yeah, I am 5'10" also, and went with the short (28") bib. Perfect.
Dont know why they made the legs so long in something which is probably going to be worn over boots.
At present they only do the 28" leg length in standard bibs, not the insulated version, or the new lightweight type.
