I have a BottomLine Tournament Master, and the control knob on it kind-of quit working. What I mean is that it will turn the unit on and off and will select settings, but it won't sroll up or down the menu's when you turn it. How can I get this fixed? If I do send it somewhere can they fix it without loosing my GPS waypoints?

Had one of those with that problem, you have to send it in. I traded up to the NCC5300.

To Team Alto:

Stotch here, who currently owns a Tournament Champion model and am disappointed with the back lighting ( or should I say NO lighting ) feature. Understand that the newer NCC models corrected this lighting problem.

When you say that you " TRADED IN " your old Bottomline Tournament Master, who did you do business with ? Were they willing to accept your old unit for the new NCC5300 model. How much $$$ did they allow you for a trade in value.

Would appreciate any and all help, contacts, phone numbers, addresses, etc. Maybe I'll do business with this company and end up with a new unit also.

Scotch,

I traded my Tournament Master 310 in for the Tournament Master HR and when I tried it out I backlighting was rotten and the contrast I had to adjust every 15 minutes. I called them up and they let me trade it(for full price) in on the NCC 5300, it workes great plus you get away from that knob that goes bad. I think they gave me around $100 credit on my old unit. You can keep your old brakets and cables, they just want the head. They have different trade in values depending on which unit you have and you can trade into refurbished unit at a cheaper price or new one for more $. You will have to talk to Bottom line to find out what they will do for you. I did this early this year and they originally said they where not trading to the 5300 yet but after I explained My problems they agreed to to do a trade. They did say they were planning on starting the upgrade program on the 5300's in the fall of 2000.

I put a post up recently about this very problem. Since my unit is a '94 Tournament Master HR and I already shipped it back once for $149 flat fee charge - I was a little hesitant to ship it back again for what seemed like a bad switch. I took the thing apart myself(voids warranty) and was EXTREMELY disappointed with what I found. Coming to the switch which is giving you so much trouble is a piece of ribbon/tape with wires embedded in it. These wires are connected to your multifunction control knob with what looks like scotch tape!! Nothing more... no solder - nothing. If the tape comes loose, you start losing functions! If the surfaces oxidize - you lose functions! A $600 piece of junk in my book. They are happy to take your $149 to repair their shoddy construction. I've also got a Lowrance X-85 and Zercom Flasher of the same vintage which haven't given me any trouble. No more Bottomline for me!!!! Trying to explain this to their customer service was like talking to a wall.

I don't really want to spend $150 to get it fixed, since I was planing on getting something new for next year anyway. Were you able to fix it yourself? If so, how? Mainly I just need to get my waypoints out of it, then I don't care what happens to it.

When I had the box open, I pressed the tape down again. There really wasn't more that I could do. The unit did work fine for a while and is back to its' old tricks again. Same problem you described - hard to move the the cursor w/ the knob. I'm very disappointed and plan to contact Bottomline some more. I think you have to disconnect power to get the box open. I'm not sure if it has battery back up - you may lose your way points either way.
Bummer :-(
