I bought a 1993 692 with a merc 150efi,It came with a 14x23 lazer 2 s/s prop,and 14x21 aluminum.With two people and gear,
I can only get 48 mph and 5100rpm w/14x23 and 46mph and 5600w/the aluminum.Any suggestions would be appreciated. The motor is set approx 1"

Hey eyecatcher,

It sounds as if you are right there. I too had a 692 with a 150 EFI. Your speeds and RPM's are right there.

I ran a small hub 23 Trophy though and did not hit that high rpm, but speeds were in that same bracket, I tried a few different props, but the small hub Trophy was the best one overall for hole shot and speed.

Have fun........R

Looks like I have to change my handle.
Try a 23 Tempest more bow lift and speed.

Eye Catcher,

I would be interested for curiosity's sake to hear the numbers with a Tempest on the 692. I did not try that prop on my boat.

It is all immaterial now as i run a 620,but i am curious just the same.

Have fun........R

Have a 175 Merc.23 tempest prop
Runs 58 gps full of fuel and 2 guy's
62 gps With half tank and 2 guy's
With live wells full hole shot is not the best with 1/2 tank of fuel but once you get her up she goes.

Hey Eye Catcher,

Sounds about what I would have expected. The 23 gives a decent hole shot and blistering top end, cool. I was curious as I said, I run a 23 on my 225 on the 620.

However, the orignal post by the other eyecatcher (lol), has his boat with a 150 i think the 23 would be to tall a prop (pitch too high) with his motor.

I still suggest he try the small hub Trophy, with all the vent holes plugged. That is what i ran with my 150. Now, with your info I also suggest he try the Tempest but in a 21 pitch. I did not have a Tempest available to me in 1995 to see what it could do for my boat so i went with the trophy.

Have fun and keep the carpeted side up!..........R

Youre waaay over propped.Your motor should be running 5600 rpms at full throttle trimmed out. At 5100 rpms that motor is just getting into the power band.A 23 pitch is awful steep for a 150.Id say try a 21 pitch tempest they provide alot more bow lift than the trophy and on a bow heavy boat like the fishermans itll make a big difference, and itll also get alittle closer to the 5600 rpm mark.

I tried the small tube trophy also but lost 4 MPH.
The 21 tempest should push his boat great.
Have not herd back from him yet to see if he had a chance to try any other props.
Rip some big lips this fall

Well that is not neccesaraly true.
Your top rpm should be between 5000 and 5600 rpms.
Just because your at the top of the rpm range does not mean your at the top of the power band.

You have to try different props to see what works to your likeing.
I go for top speed. I am lucky to be able to try any prop I choose.
And the 23 tempest ran the best at top speed for me an the way I run.
The 21 tempest had a better hole shot but lost 2 mph.
I have been playing this game for a long time.
And the only way to dial your boat in is to try different props on the same day in the same conditions.
Have a great day
