I am wondering about the x-15. I am thinking about getting one this wweekend but I wonder about this upgrade and buring out transducers ect. Are these units really that good? Is the scroll speed what it need to be. Do they mark fish as well as the x-85? Please let me know if I should spend the money?? Thanks

I have no answer for you and look forward to the replies. I too have been planning on purchasing one of these units but so far, after reading all of the posts, I have decided to wait until all the bugs are worked out. I bet there are a lot of people like me who have been monitoring the conversation on walleyercentral.

Just got mine in the mail today! I'll install it and try it out this weekend and post my opinion next week. I went with the single 200khz-21 degree transducer because of some of the negative stuff I'd heard on here about conflicts, but kinda wish that I had gone with the dual transducer just for the extra power (4000 vs. 3000 watts). Time will tell, but it looks to be a good unit with the software upgrade features.

installed the x-16ci during pre-fish on Erie for the RCL.

WOW... what a unit. I had the x-85 at the dash and one at the back of the boat. Looks like I'll be looking to get another x-15 or 16 to swap out for the back!

Clarity, and ability to get arc and arc grey scale definition is very good. It is often difficult to get the sensitivity right to maximize settings to get grey scale under the larger fish as well as identifying complete separation from smaller fish and baitfish.

Scroll speed is perfect. You might have seen the scroll speed in the retailers and the speed was quite slow. I was curious about that fact and found out that the sim chip in the unit runs alightly less than the x-85 so the loop of the sim will not repeat as fast. On water it is awesome, Jason ran the x-15 and was able to do the same and cwe could even pick out fish at 15-15mph speeds!!!

Sunlight actually allowed the screen to be brighter than anything I've used in the past. There is a sunshade if you want to eliminate 100% of the glare you might have in low sun angles.

I also was able to set the sensitivity up and surface clarity to "0" this creates a fog at the top of the screen on most units and makes picking out higher riding fish difficult but the color and the grey of either unit allow easy reading of arcs within that fog area.

When it comes to picking a unit, get the best you can afford. The x-15 is awesome, widescreen and all the bells and whistles. the x-16 color was something I wasn't originally going to get but... I am impressed.

Feel free to give me a call if you have any other ?'s

Eric - it sounds like your giving the X15 and X16 pretty good reviews

Are you in any way connected with Lowrance or their products?

I ALSO HAVE ONE AND I THINK THEY ARE VERY GOOD UNITS DESPITE WHAT HAS BEEN POSTED HERE. LOWRANCE IS STAYING ON TOP OF THINGS AND WHEN THERE IS TROUBLE YOU CAN MOST GENERALLY FIX IT BY DOWNLOADING THE NEXT VERSION OF SOFTWARE!! FROM WHAT I HEARD THE CHART SPEED PROBLEM WAS FIXED WITH A SOFTWARE UPGRADE,I MAY BE WRONG THOUGH? AND THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEW VERSION OUT BY THE END OF THE WEEK WHICH WILL ENHANCE MORE FEATURES. I CANT WAIT! LOWRANCE IS TOPS AT WHAT THEY DO AND THIS IS FANTASTIC NEW TECHNOLOGY!!
