Well, I have never turkey hunted but my house would be the place to do it. Last year we had 80 turkeys...in one group...that would come down into the yard. I have pictures of it. They would come down single file. When they left it looked like someone had raked the yard. This year there are 2 different groups. One has 20 and one had 30 in it. Amazing. I will never get tired of watching them strut.
Good job on the one you got.
Take care,
Lisa

I got mine 4/24/01 in northeast Iowa. 21.4 ibs., 10" beard,
1" spurs. I also found 5 deer and 4 turkeys that didn't make
the winter. First time I seen that in Iowa and I have been
hunting for 28 years.

I see lots of turkeys when I travel, but last weekend on I-94 in Wisconsin was the first time I saw turkey roadkill. A big one got nailed by something, but I don't know what or how.

Do turkeys avoid roadways, or are they road savvy like crows? No big deal, but I am curious.

Racoons, on the other hand, must reproduce like rabbits, given the frequency of coon roadkill.

Gobble and out.

turkeys are said to have as good of, if not better vision as an eagle, that might explain the lower count.

eyefisheyes, nice bird! sorry for your winter losses. i have some friends that went out snow goose hunting in IA this past spring. they had a tough time as thing were still froze up on their trip. most of the birds stayed south longer.

CJ hope you and your son have a great time. i had a 2 way radio(legal in mich) and was hunting a forty and a half behind the house. when i was done i called my wife and told her, when i got home she met me at the door with a fresh cup of joe. now she wants to hunt next year!

the things i love about turkey hunting are the same things i love fishing for. in the end both come down to presentation.

Really nice bird, sib. I'm jealous, I did'nt get drawn this year, but that's OK. I have a full plate right now and the wife would have hit the ceiling if I had added that to my list this year. 2 Grads to prepare for in 1 1/2 months. Yeah, I am happy for ya and will look forward to trying for one like that next year.

Good luck on the 'eyes this season.

I nailed one last year on I-88 in New York. He was walking along the left shoulder as I approached at 70 mph in the left lane. There was a big rig alongside me in the right lane. That idiot turkey walked out onto the highway and continued right toward me. I hit the brakes and swerved what little I could considering the truck beside me, but I hit him anyway. He went flying through the air and landed in the median. I never felt or heard it, just saw him in the rear view mirror.

I shot my first one in Nebraska at the end of march this year. It was a jake Merriams, very first turkey with a bow. The great part of hunting Nebraska with a bow is that it opens up before shotgun season. I leave for Missourri tomarrow, very excited.

SweetP, you haven't by chance lent a few turkey hunting items to a brother of yours have you? The turkey season in Indiana opened yesterday. Walking out of work in about 2 min to try my luck.

Weren't you aware? Racoons and possums are born dead in the middle of the road. :-)
