View Full Version : Oil for 4.3 Merc I/O
I would like some recommendations on oil to use in a V6 4.3 Merc I/O. Is Quicksilver the way to go or are there better alternatives?

Hard to fault choosing QS - w/o some hard facts, it's your best bet.

If it is already broken in, go with one of the name brand synthetics. Castrol, Mobil one, Amsoil, etc. IMHO the synthetics are the best lubricants money can buy.

Read and abide by your owner's manual. Document your oil purchases and save receipts. Future warranty claim issues are more easily settled when you show them you've been using factory recommended service products. Once outside your warranty period, you may still want to use your Mercury products, but remember that while this engine is a modified General Motors engine.....it's use is not typical automotive service. Marine service is very heavy duty with hard launches and full rpm operation. Lubrication is very important. Use good judgement.
