View Full Version : Abu Garcia Centre Drag Spinning Reels
Anyone have any experience with these reels? I love the ease of drag adjustment, though I'll confess those puppies aren't exactly the lightest reels I've ever handled.
Any comments/observations?

i was suprised by the weight...one of the heavier

abu garcia makes good stuff at a good price.

I been using the suveran for over a year ,all stainless gears they just get smoother as time goes on and this is a smooth reel from the start .the center drag is just like going from a front to a rear drag you'll get used to it pretty quick and it is a heavier reel but well balanced i use it on 3 different rods balances out nice i've jigged with it for days on end and casted spinners all day and my hand and arm feels fine i think balance not so much the weight is the key. but this is just my feeling good luck on what ever you use.

I agree with Hooked, they are amazingly smooth and the key is not the weight but the balance. I would guess the weight difference would not be equal to wearing a extra wrist watch. The drag is 2nd to none, very very smooth and it doesn't have to be checked several times a day as some do.
You never get your fingers near your line when adjusting the drag. I would highly recommend them. Good Luck

Working in a tackle store as well as a mad keen fisherman I get to look at many reels critically.
The suveran seems to be a fine piece of enginering. The only fault i could find was that in some the instant oneway anti-reverse system may have some problems. Try this with the one you intend to buy. Turn the handle several times very fast then quckly stop and start turning again, sometimes there is extra play there. I find this disturbing.
