I have a 75hp Mariner on a 1600 Pro Sport. According to the specs it weighs 910lb. With 2 people and a full tank of gas it will do 40 to 41mph on a gps. Once or twice it has hit 43 if conditions are perfect. I would think a 90 horse would push it up to 43 to 44 mph on average. Pat K

It could be, but the design of the hull has a lot to do with it to. Its a good idea to go at least 75-80% of the maximum rating on a console, and max it out on a tiller. If the maximum rating on the boat you are looking at is 115 or less, then 90 is probably fine.

It would be easier if you just told us what boat you were looking at!

BTW, I assume that you're considering this motor as an alternative to the '98 Ficht 90 that you were considering a few days ago?

Hello
You are correct I was looking at a used ficht 90 hp, but listen to this. When I asked the owner if I could see that boat, RYDs 510 GTS, he told me that the engine was a ordinary 2-stroke. And a ficht engine are a lot more expensive you know. Atleast where I live (sweden).

I think you can find the RYD on the net but the Örnwik,
I don't think you will find. I will scann that and show you.
But look at http://www.larsflodin.se/ and click at Nya Batar (new boats).

Options for the moment.
Used 1998, but less than 100 hours
Ryds 510 GTS, 90 hp Evenrude ficht 2s , 5.1 meter, 450 kg, price incl trailer 11.000$

New
Örnwik CLX 510, 60 hp Merc 4s, 5.1 meter, est 35-36 mph, 480 kg, price incl trailer 14.000$

New (other engine)
Örnwik CLX 510, 90 hp Merc 2s, 5.1 meter, 480 kg, price incl trailer 13.500$

Yesterday another option poped up:
Used 1999 less then 50 hours,
Buster XL, Alu (not plastic), A little bit bigger than the above,
Yamaha 80 hp 4s, no trailer, 11.000$
That is a fair price, but I don't know if I want an alu boat

You're right John, I couldn't find anything...

Thanks for the link -- this is a fascinating site, since I am not familiar with any of these boats.

The Örnwik CLX 510 with a Merc 60 4s seems like it might be underpowered. 480 kg is a lot of weight for a 60, even if it has the best hull design in the world.

I checked out Buster boats at the link you posted, and they are very unusual in that they appear to have a lot more deadrise and freeboard than most aluminum boats. They might ride better in rough water than a typical aluminum walleye boat. Take one for a test drive if you can.

Good luck, and take your time. A bad boat purchase is something that you can regret for a long time...

My 2000 90hp had trouble from the start. Had lower unit gears noise, not aligning properly. Two months to fix. also a carb trouble.

Hello
The Buster XL is sold.
New they cost almost 20.000 with Yam 80hp
So this particular one had a good price, but i missed it.

I was almost ready to go for that boat.

JonneO

I run a '97 90 HP Merc Tiller on a 19' Alumacraft which weighs in at 1225 lbs (hull only). Add in 300 lbs fuel (41 gal), 200 lbs batteries (4), 400 lbs for a couple lard butts, and 200 lbs for mcls fishing equipment. I'm running 31-32 MPH turning a 18" pitch prop @5500 RPM.

The motor has been great, other than some minor damage I impossed! The 90 HP Merc is a three cyclinder, whereas OMC and most other manufacturer's 90 HP are four cylinders.

I have a 1999 Alumacraft Tournament PRO 170 CS with 2000
Johnson 90 HP. The boat is about 1100 lbs plus 22 gallons of gas tank, two full water livewell tanks and 2 adults, the 90 hp is great performance, no problem, not hard on motor, go plane easy.
My gps showed me 46 mph. 90 is very good reasonable price, I afford it better than 115 hp. My boat hp rating is 115 max. 80% of max. rating for console is recommanded by US Coast Guard. And
100% of max rating for tiller. I am very happy with it. Good Luck Jay..MN

Think about what you intend to use the boat for. A four stroke may be worth the extra money, especially if you intend to do any trolling. You could use a kicker, but then thats going to cost also.
Most people, once they try 4 strokes, will not go back to a 2.

By the way, what are you fishing for in Sweden?

Hello
You were wondering about the fishing in sweden.
Look att the post" Hey Bison ..........."
There you will find some comments about fishing in Sweden.
A matter of fact I have catch one Walleye once somewhere in Ohio 10 years ago. It was good and close to our Pikeperch.
