I'm making this post for my dad. He's looking to buy a 30 Honda this spring, but I've heard so much good stuff about Yamahas that I'm wondering whether Yamaha might be another consideration. Has anybody used this motor? How does it compare to the Honda?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

We have a Yamaha 30 2 stroke.. It is a 3 Cyl. Have had it for 5 years and it is fantastic. This summer I tried out a 30 4 Stroke and was equally happy with the 2 stroke. Mine is lighter, actually seems to start faster (rope start) and minimal smoke. In this model I do not know the price difference between a 2 and 4 stroke, but If its a lot definately consider the 2 stroke. Some of the reliable 2 strokes out there definately give the 4 strokes a run for their money.

The Yamaha 30 2-stroke is the single best selling outboard in the world, but that wasn't your question. The 30hp., 4-stroke is a terrific engine but there is 1 problem. Once the camps are finished buying, there usually are none left, as a matter of fact, there usually aren't enought to supply the camps with all of their engines.

Good Luck
