I saw the post about the Monarch dealers and that Monarch 1900. Why is this boat so cheap? 13,500 for a 20 foot deep V. I know these boats don't even come close to the tourney boats but how do they match up against the Fisher Hawk 186 or the Targa 18. I would really like to hear some good imput, I know its not the top of the line by any means but I need to do what I can afford.
Thanks

I looked at the Monarks (I believe it is the same company as Sylvan) a couple of years ago. I was impressed by the price/features compared to the RCL's. I ended up going with a Smokercraft which has been great for my purposes but found nothing wrong with the Monark.

One word of caution - a lot of the dealers who sell the cheaper line of boats try to reduce costs by rigging them with "promotional" "Demo" "Reconditioned" etc. If the price looks too good....

I bought a y2k 191 DC last spring. After fishing out of it all of last year I'm generally satisfied with my purchase. The boat is mfg. by Starcraft and infact if you go to the starcraft site you'll see similar boats. I've fished Lake Erie, Rice Lake in Canada, Chataqua in New York and several lakes in Ohio, where I live, and am impressed by the big water capabilities of this boat. I looked at alot of boats before picking the Monark and I can tell you it compares very favorably to boats costing much more. Feel free to E'mail me if you have any Questions and I'll try to answer them for you.

Newt is exactly right. the boat is manufactured by starcraft. They travel right down the line alongside the starcraft boats, but the difference between the two is the monark is a completely welded hull like a crestliner. The starcraft is a riveted hull. From what I seen of them is that they are a pretty decent build boat. That 19' king I seen had huge amounts of room in it. I don't know for sure how much storage it had but what I did see I liked. The complete windshield looked plenty strong also. But a very roomy and decent put together boat. And for $13K, you could rig that thing to the hilt and still be really reasonable. Pretty tempting.

I have a Monark Pro 1900, and have fished out of it for 2 years on Erie. The boat handles well on big water and has plenty of room. Yes it is not your tournament style boat but you would have to double the price to get one of those. I have fished a couple tournaments out of this one and has worked just fine. I don't know where you fish, but this boat has done well for me. If you are looking for a used one , mine is in the classifies under Ohio.

First off Monark no longer makes a model 1900.I assume you are referring to the 190 DC which is the "king" model, a 19' all welded deep 'v' with a full windshield. Yes like all boats of this type with the windshield acting like a sail the wind will blow you around a bit. As far as the storage goes it's about the same as most boats in this class (front storage under the raised bow platform and in the rear, 2 live wells, 2 rod lockers, and glove box) I own a 2000 191 which is the same as the 190 except with a stern drive. After 1 year of use I like the boat alot. There are a couple of things I am not satisfied with but they are just minor things and I plan on taking care of them this winter. These are adding lights to the rod lockers and a recirculating pump to the livewell, cost less than $100. I bought this boat new for thousands less than alot of similar boats and even received a few compliments on the boat from a couple of loyal Lund owners. If you want more info feel free to 'e' mail me.

I looked at the 170 King and had decided on getting the Starcraft version (170 LE) after months of looking at dozens of boats. The main reason I had decided on the Starcraft version was because of the dealers here in the Twin Cities. The Monarch dealer in the southern suburbs was where the armed man held the dealer hostage for a refund back in September(?). After talking to the dealer 2 days before the incident I sympathized with the disgruntled customer. Real nice boat for the money.

p.s. I ended up coming accross a discountiued SmokerCraft that was too good a bargin to pass up, on my way to buy the Starcraft.
