LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-01 AT 01:16PM (CST)[p]Wallace, I will be right on the other side of the channel (In the river) from you. By the white house at the river mouth. Look for the blue Lund with a new floor (fingers crossed) and all the stickers on the side (Lindy Little Joe Fishing Team). Other wise I will be over by game farm hump and the flats in front of the Walker Lake discharge.
See ya there and good luck...hope there is now snow this year. :-)

Woman Lake, although every year I swear I'm going to open a week later cause of all the inconsiderates on the water over opening. I never do as I have fishin' fever by then and a weeks wait is too long.

I'll be out on the St. Louis River somewhere in the neighborhood of buoy 77.
For the first time in a few years, I'll at least NOT be at a trade show in LA! Ye-friggin-ha!!!
I only go 40 minutes from home, on West Rush Lake, Rush City.
Maybe I'll see you up on Ottertail or the other Rush someday Aquaman! I hope so.

Hey Ron, you know where I will be !!
Gofish - Leech lake
West end of Vermilion. First time since 1992 I will able to fish opening weekend. I am excited about going back and because my Dad will be able to go fishing too. Counting down the days and looking at the web cam on the Vermilion homepage to see when the ice goes out.

I will going to Leech Lake. Staying at Big Rock Resort. I usually hate crowds but opener is one time I deal with it.Hope the weather is better than last year!
Gee, Tom, what a surprise! With spring being late, I can even imagine what part of the lake you will be fishing. Hope your guide service is well booked. I won't be able to get to "the promised land" until late July this year,

TGG,
Maybe I'll see you out there. I usually hit the gravel flat above marker 77 on the wisconsin side. Caught quite a few last year during opening week pulling little rippers/#5 shadraps upstream and drifting back down with jig/minnow. Was thinking of heading to Boulder Res, but my father-in-law is coming over and he loves to fish the river even with the crowds. Good luck and stay safe. If you see us stop over and we'll buy you a cup of "hot joe".

Unfortunately, I'll probably be behind the wheel of a tractor trying to catch up on field work, due to a late spring. If I should make it, I'll probably stay close to home. Lake Emily, in Pope County (if the water level drops enough so that the public access is open) otherwise Minnewaska. It's not good to have a bad case of "Jigginitis" and then be forced to watch boat after boat go by on the highway when you can't join them.
Best of luck to everyone on the opener.

I'll be on Big Pine weather(wind) permitting, or on the Ottertail River(By Frazee), either one will be producing "eyes". I love the idea of being on Mille Lacs in a lawn chair though. I will be out to Lake Stella and Lake Washington by Dassel, Minnesota, just about 20 miles north from Hutuchinson,MN
Neighbor was up to Cut Foot Friday evening. Talked with the local warden and looked at the fish traps. I guess the eyes just started coming in to the traps the last few days. Warden said that 99.9% chance that Cut Foot will be off limits to fish on opener. That means the gap area will be an absolute zoo! I was going to go there, but I think I'm going to head to Vermilion instead. Tough decision, but I struggle with crowds of once a year, opening day fisher types. Had enough bumper boats on Rainy River and Red Wing already. Good luck to ya, I'd love to hear the results.

Forget Minnesota! Let's all head out to Chamberlain, South Dakota and learn how to pinch fish tails (and tales).
Borch
05-03-2001, 08:07 AM
On Osakis don't be afraid to get shallow. A lot of guys do very well fishing the left over reed beds. Pitching small jigs and bobber rigs along the edges and into pockets. Good Luck...You won't be alone.

Wisconsin "opener" is this weekend (May 4-5), but with so much water in Wisconsin open continuously, the so-called "opener" is really a non-event compared with Minnesota (where more and more water is open longer and longer). Opener will probably never attain the BIG EVENT status it had 30 to 50 years ago.

I know this is a stupid question for most of you, is there actually a season for walleye in some states? I take it you can't even fish? I would like to know how the "opener" works. Thanks, Dumb in Indiana
Juls_WI

In Wisconsin there is a "closed" season on all gamefish on inland lakes. The river systems stay "open" all year though. Our "opener" for inland lakes was today.
