Can anyone recommend a good reel for pulling bottom bouncers? I'm looking for a low profile, RH, with flippin' switch. I have a Quantum EX500 which I dearly love, but is seen better days. Need a couple replacements!

Regards

On a side note, if anyone has a Quantum EX500 6.2 or two they would like to unload, please contact me - thanks

i really like the Accurist ACS. if you are a Quantum fan anyway can't imagine you could go wrong unless you prefer to get into the $200 reels category.

Dave:
Last fall they had some new EX500's at the sportmans liquidators store down in South St. Paul. Just west of where 494 and the river intersect. Price was $50 or $60 bucks, real cheap for that reel. I am a big fan of that reel (my bottom bouncer, too) and almost bought on last year when I saw them, as them seem hard to come by.

Thanks for the info, Leechboy - I'll give 'em a hollar and see if they still have any in stock. They are really hard to come by....I had an opportunity last year to buy a couple off my friend's brother's sister-in-law's cousin (no kidding!!) and blew it.

Thanks, Joe

I've never done the whole e-bay thing, but maybe it's time that I learned. I don't know where I got the notion, but it seems to stick in the back of my head that I looked at it once and it seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. I'll look again... Any advice?

I bought 2 of the Bass Pro Walleye Series baitcasters about a month ago off the internet. They were not in any of the catalogs but are listed on the web site under the baitcasting section. When I got mine they were on sale from $70 down to $50. Seem like a nice reel, I'm not sure whose frame it is but is nice and tight and smooth. Has good weight and good features. They come with Flipping switch and nice capacity, if I remember they held about 155yds. of 12lb.mono. Plenty to double as trolling reels or bouncer reels. The site showed two different models but the folks at Bass Pro didn't think there was any difference. Probably just this years and last years, the specs were the same for either. Check them out, I was quite happy with the purchase and would buy more without doubt...RJ in Montana

Dave,
Go to the site, scroll down to the bottom fill in the bid amount you will go to(max) and it will tell you to login. At that point you will have to choose a username and password. Then it will send you back to the auction page. There you will have to put in your username and password. Bookmark the page and feep an eye on it until it ends,,, pretty simple. I have bought a lot of stuff on ebay, never have I had any trouble.

The easiest way to do ebay is to follow their directions for registration and bidding until you use it a few times.

Be careful, it is habit forming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second Larry's Accurist recommendation! I have a couple and love them...and they do have the flippin switch. If I remember right they go for around $95.

The Walleye Angler reels are really the BP Extreme reel with a WA emblem on side. They did not put them out as WA reel this year. Guess they figured waste of time to have emblem put reel. But I wish BP would have kept them in the WA section as a combo package with the P&K rods like last year. They made great btmbncr combo. But have found BP still has "bass only" mentality despite P&K and others working to help promote BP as a walleye tackle source. How are their stores up North- do the Walleye sections have more than one small corner display?

Any low profle Shimano baitcasting reel would be fine. If you will be holding your rod while operating a tiller, I'd suggest using a left handed reel. A left handed reel in this situation will make your fishing a lot easier. You will quickly discover the a left handed reel has the handle on the "correct" side. You wont have to keep changing hands and doing a lot of awkward things.

The Walleye series and the Extreme do Look quite similar. A few small differences are all that set them apart from what I can see. Spool capacity is 45yds. different, gear ratio is different, and it appears in the specs they have a different ball system, other than that I agree with you they look like they are built on the same frame. The big difference I can see right now is $20 savings!! I rechecked the web site and they are down to only one model. They must have sold a few, better get them while they last.. Good fishing to all..RJ

The best reel that I have used is the Daiwa PT33.
