Gentlemen ,
Surely you have heard something regarding the OMC situation .
Should we as consumers have any , or what level of confidence in buying ; a used rig with a OMC engine or a new rig with a OMC engine ? What is the availability going to be for service and or parts for both new and used products ? What about resale value for those who own OMC powered rigs ?
Thanks in advance
Pat

Jan 3, we received a fax that said they had filed Chapter 11 and they were hoping to sell off their divisions...soon.
One fax from OMC, stuff we already knew (from the posts here). That is all.

There are warranties that you can buy for used motors and even new motors and the parts will be available. Negotiating the cost of the warranty with a dealer on new or used is a factor. If a warranty on an outboard motor was more then the standard 1 year there would obviously be more concern on a used rig, but most used rigs don't have any warranty on the motor anyway. If you are overly concerned, FPC does have some great programs available. You can get information at most boat dealers I would imagine. Let the cost factor help you decide your level of need for a warranty based on how old the motor is,how many hours it has on it and the manner in which you plan to use it.
Good Luck,
