View Full Version : STARCRAFT SUPERFISHERMAN
I'M THINKING ABOUT BUYING A 2000 STARCRAFT SUPERFISHERMAN 176DC WITH A 2000 125 MERC. ANY COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS ABOUT THIS SETUP WOULD BE GREAT. ALSO WOULD A KICER MOTOR BE NEEDED FOR TROLLING.
I HAVE THE SUPER FISHERMAN 196 WITH A 125 AND I LOVE IT. I WOULD RECOMMEND A KICKER. I HAVE A 9.9 KICKER AND THE BAR THAT TIES THE 2 MOTORS TOGETHER SO YOU CAN CONTROL DIRECTION FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND I HAVE THE TROLLKING TO CONTROLL THE KICKER RPM. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING THE AUTO PILOT ELECTRIC TO HAVE ALL THE TOY I NEED. AINT THIS FUN. IF YOU DO A LOT OF TROLLING IT'S THE WAY TO GO.
I have the 2000 176 dc with a 90 merc. Purchased it in June of 99 and really like the set up. If you want all the details give me your e-mail and I will be glad to fill you in.

SP,
I have a 2000 176 Superfisherman with the 125 Merc and I am very happy with the set up and the boat. I have the Merc 9.9 Big Foot kicker and really think the electric start is worth the extra $. If you install a bow mount trolling motor I strongly recommend you consider gell cell or agm batteries for the bow mount. These batteries are located under the consoles and they are a pain to take out and check on a regular basis. There is plenty of room under the passenger console to mount an on-board charger. The rear starboard storage compartment is an ideal location to mount a battery for your kicker and boat electronics. There is also room in this compartment for another on-board charger for the kicker and main starting battery. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me.
I HAVE A 97 SUPERFISHERMAN 176DC WITH A 90HP MARINER AND A MINNKOTA CORDLESS POWERDRIVE 42LBS ON 12 VOLTS WITH A 54" SHAFT. I BOUGHT IT NEW FEB OF 98 AND HAVE USED IT 3 FULL YEARS NOW AND I STILL LOVE THIS BOAT. I LIVE RIGHT ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER 40 MINUTES FROM 4 MAJOR DAMS WHICH WE FISH NOT COUNTING THE FEW LOCAL LAKES WE TRY TO HIT FOR BASS AND CRAPPIE THRU THE YEAR, I ALSO TAKE AT LEAST ONE 2 WEEK VACATION TO NORTHERN MINNESOTA AND SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO (LAKE OF THE WOODS).THEIR IS SELDOM A WEEKEND GO BY MARCH THRU NOV THAT I DONT USE MY BOAT. MY BOAT WILL RUN 39 TO 44 MPH ON GPS DEPENDING ON YOUR LOAD. IF TO DO AGAIN I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE 125, NOT BECAUSE I NEED IT, I JUST LIKE TO GO FAST, BUT MY 90 IS ALSO VERY GOOD ON GAS. ALSO I WOULD RECOMMEND AT LEAST A 24 VOLT TROLLING MOTOR FOR THE BOW, IVE NEVER HAD TROUBLE WITH MY 12 VOLT, IT JUST TAKES A LOT LONGER TO CHARGE AFTER A FULL DAY. DONT HAVE A KICKER AS OF YET STILL WAITING FOR THAT GOOD DEAL TO COME ALONG, NEVER HAD TO MUCH TROUBLE TROLLING WITH MY BIG MOTOR IT IDLES SMOOTH AND IS FAIRLY QUIET. BOAT SEEMS TO TAKE ROUGH WATER GOOD ALWAYS GET A DAY OR TWO OF WIND ON BIG LAKES UP NORTH.

I bought a superfisherman 176 dc in 1999 am very happy with it for the price , you can get more boat but will spend more money.I also have the 125 merc and find it only trolls down to 2.5 mph therefore I would get a kicker. I tried trolling with my minkota autopilot which worked fine on calm water but if the wind blows it won't hold a charge long enough.Good luck with your boat hunting look around and enjoy!!! snappin

Just bought a used ( hasn't even had a tank of gas thru it yet )1999 Starcraft Fishmaster 176 with a 90 hp Merc. I believe this unit is very similar to your boats with exception to the stern where a downrigger mounting board is instead another seat pedestal. Glad to hear all the positive reports! I live in PA but fish the Finger Lakes of NY downrigging for trout and L.L. Salmon. Paid 10 grand for the boat motor and trailer has 5 pedestal seats, Lowrance X25B, and a 43# thrust Motorguide trolling motor. Thought I did pretty good on the price. Guy I got it from was a speed freak and it just couldn't go fast enough for him. His loss my gain. Woody
