Due to high water conditions Operation Walleye reschedules tournament
Due to severe flooding and the Coast Guard restrictions of boat traffic on the upper Mississippi River, the RCL tournament scheduled May 9-12 on the Mississippi River at LaCrosse has been rescheduled. The new tournament date for this event is July 25-28. Deposits and entries for the May 9-12 event will automatically be transferred to the rescheduled date unless Operation Walleye is notified otherwise. The next regularly scheduled event in the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Circuit is June 13-16 at Saginaw Bay.

You set the precedent at Erie and are sticking to your guns. I applaud your rational decision, Sonny. Sooner or later, this weather thing is going to start cooperating with the RCL. Keep up the good work!
Looking forward to seeing everyone there in July.

In all honesty I believe that is a very educated decision. I am the fishing department manager at the LaCrosse Gander Mountain Store. The river is a mess right now and full of floating trees and debris of all types. Moving the tournament to July will actually make for a better tournament for everyone involved. Currently the way things look the river would have just slipped below the 12ft flood stage at the time the RCL had anticipated to come into town. In the end of July it will be at normal pool - (unless we get one heck of a downpour) and the fishing will be HOT! Few major tournaments have been held in the summer and it may be finally time for a few of you to see what is really out there- you guys may be very pleasantly surprised. As a perk to come in to the LaCrosse Gander Mountain Store I would like to let each of you know we will be offering free line winding (excluding Fireline) for any purchase over $10 with the submittance of a special coupon I will be giving out or when you display your RCL card. We are located at 9519 State Hwy 16 just off Interstate 90 on exit 5, Ph# 608-783-2820. I am a tournament walleye angler myself, so we offer a great assortment of the river tackle items you will be looking for when you venture into our city- welcome to LaCrosse and good luck to all of you! Sorry to come off as a comercial, but few anglers have know where to find us during the past tournaments and I want to take care of all your tournament needs during your stay.

Jigmup, what works really good down there at that time of
year? I've fished it in spring and late summer/fall but
never in mid summer. Any hint would sure be appreciated.
Thanks,

Postponing it until July instead of cancelling or moving it was the right decision. The people of LaCrosse thank you Sonny! That's a lot of business that the area was counting on that now will not be lost.

That time of year it will honestly be pretty hard to beat wingdam fishing. Pitching jigs, lindy rigs, crankbaits, and crawler / spinner harnesses will all produce nice fish. The full array of summer river presentations will be in full swing and those locating that "key hawg real estate" will definately have a leg up on the others. Best of luck to all of you who can make it to the Mississippi- it should be one heck of a fun tournament pro or am. Check out the propages and articles on Sauger.com for more info.
