I WILL BE TAKING MY 2 BOYS,AGE 12 AND 14, ON THEIR FIRST CANADIAN FISHING TRIP IN SASKATCHAWAN THE FIRST WEEK IN JUNE. I AM CURIOUS WHAT THE LICENSE FEE WILL BE FOR THEM AS WELL AS MYSELF. ALSO NEED TO KNOW IF I NEED TO TAKE A COPY OF THEIR BIRTH CERTIFICATES OR OTHER RELATED PAPERWORK.

THANKS

Your kids dont need a license if they are under 16 yrs. Yours will be $50.00 cdn. Good idea to bring theie birth certificates when crossing the border. Here is a site where all 2001 regulations are www.serm.gov.sk.ca

Every lodge/resort that I have ever stayed at when they have sent out info they tell you to bring Birth Certificates for everyone. Also if you are the non custodial parent you will need a letter from the Custodial guardian. I have been asked to show birth certificates once in 4 years.

If I remember correctly, any fish your sons catch will count towards your total. I'm not 100% sure but I think it is true - for that is what they told me when I was fishing at Rice Lake. Can anyone else verify this for me??

Yes! Any fish that they catch go towards your total limit. They can buy a license, even when they don't need one, and this will allow them to take there own limit.

I have been going into Canada off and on for forty years. I have never had to produce a birth certificate. Once or twice I weas asked for it. When I told them that I didn't have it they let me through anyway. I suspect that different ports and border guards may insist on it though. I carried one the last few times but have not been asked for it. I ussually cross at Regway north of Plentywood, Montana. It is a twenty-four hour port. I crossed at Sweetgrass, Montana several years ago with my grandaughters and did not have to show any thing then either. Good luck. I'm sure that you will enjoy your trip.

Age has nothing to do with your needed or not needing some proof of Citizenship. You should have a certified birth certificate with raised State seal (not just photocopy) or US Passport (best of all).

My wife and I flew last year into a Canadian Airport in Alberta and were severely critised for not both having US Passports. For driving across the Border they are not as strict but sure would have along a certified birth certificate for everyone in your party. With all the International terrorists the Border Officals are being forced to be more cautious.

I have driven into Canada at least once a year since 1960 and have only been asked where I lived and not ever for any proof.
