I have a 115 Mariner (1998) on my aluminum boat and was thinking of upgrading to a 115 Suzuki 4 stroke.I hear these motors are very reliable and at the price of gas in Canada I was wondering if it was worth the extra money for the swap.Does any one own a new Suzuki and what are their experiences with the performance with this motor. ??? Will it run as good top end speed as the mariner, and by how much %%% better it is on gas consumption.
Hope to hear from some Suzuki owners.
I owned a 98 Johnson 70 4-stroke for three seasons, which is basically a Suzuki motor with a white paint job and a few minor differences. This motor pushed a 16' Crestliner and two guys 36 mph WOT (speedo, not GPS). It didn't seem to have as much holeshot as a 2-stroke of comparable size. Very good gas mileage, and very smooth and quiet. I would consider buying a Suzuki 115 4-stroke based on my experiences with this motor. The only problems I had were with OMC service, but that wasn't Suuki's fault.
The Suzuki will run as fast or faster than your Mariner with a fuel savings of 50% plus.
