I am going to purchase a new motor but I am not sure which motor to get. A 2 Stroke or a 4 Stroke 9.9. I heard the 2 Storke has more power than a 4 Stroke. But I also heard a 4 Stroke is quiter and is alot smoother running than a 2 stroke. Any opinions will be a great help.

The small 2-strokes don't have near the disadvantages of the bigger ones. They don't die a premature death from ring fouling, and since they burn much less fuel, they also burn less oil. I've been running a 9.8 Merc since 1978, first as my only engine, then as a kicker. The 2-strokes cost less, weigh less, and last as long. I think the 4-stroke small engines are sold because they are easier to build, contribute to a maker's total emissions (like the CAFE which car builders must meet), and are kind of a solution in search of a problem. I don't dislike them, but I don't see that much of an advantage vs. cost either.
Before I bought a Johnson or Evinrude, I'd wait to see who ends up owning them. The holding company that bought OMC a few years ago is in bancruptcy and will sell the divisions of OMC soon.
