I had a fish 'n fun 14.5 footer with a 25 horse Mariner on it last year. It was a nice little boat (had a console, livewell, storage) once I rigged it up with a bowmount and locator. It was a little small for me (so I traded it in on a 17 ft Lund), but was pleased with what it had to offer.
And, and FYI, Northwoods is Sylvan :)
Northwoods are built by Smoker Craft. They are basically SmokerCraft hulls without the frills. Very good value, especially if you are handy and can rig it up to suit your preferences.

I had a Northwood as my first "real" boat. I had a little 14' console with a 25 Mariner. All in all, not a bad boat. Honestly I really didn't ever have a complaint with the boat. I had always heard that these hulls were the Sylvan/Smoker Craft hulls that didn't measure up to specs. My hull never seemd to leak a drop from the day that I bought it to the day I sold it 5 years later.

I know of two people that own northwoods, and they seem to be a quality boat. Like Hans said, I'm pretty sure they have a good solid hull design, but with out all the extra perks and an expensive name. I'd consider buying one.
