Without a doubt the fastest walleye boat is a Warrior V2090 with a 300 hp merc pro max. C-YA on the water.

Leave it a Warrior guy to have this post!!
Maybe next year they will have a 400hp on a 18ft'er!!
or better yet a tiller with a 225!! UNBIEVEABLE!!!

I have seen a lot of boats try to make that claim, but I have never in last 4 yrs, had any walleye boat pass me. I have a 1895 Storm TSC, w/225 Merc, and I guess the best people to ask, would be Mercury Marine's engineering group at the boat house in Oshkosh, they have run it, and by far said it was the Fastest. By the way, I'm sorry, there is one faster, that is the one at the factory, it is the fastest Walleye boat anywhere. It has a 250 hp on it, and I know it can't be touched, ask the engineers, email me, I would be glad to give you their names, so you can get the facts!

My information was that the same Merc guys said that about the new Tuffy 1990 Osprey w/225 merc. 75mph plus.

How fast can the fastest walleye swim??? :)

PASSED ONE

Not sure but I think I passed one last year on Erie.Is that a gray boat with a black motor on it?No I'm sure I passed one.It was on a Sunday 3 to 4 ft chop 10 miles out I was going in running about 23 mph.It was running about, well not sure but the guy driving was wet and I'll bet he could run faster.

Triton 205 with a 250XB is an absolute screamer. If they get off dead center at OMC, or cut the boat companies loose, you'll soon be passed by Javelin 21MSX's with 250's. They fly with 225's. Besides that, they are longer and the ride is awesome.

Who cares what the fastest walleye boat is. Posts like this just cause problems and arguments. Let's all just play nice together.

that's funny, when I went for a ride in a yarcraft 1 1/2 years ago with the chief that was supposed to go 65 but the spedo was out and when I pulled out my handheld g.p.s. and the best was 54 m.p.h. was he in shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, even 1500 pounds of crap will go faster than any walleye boat, if ya fire it out of a cannon!

Ya know...
The Air ofrce had a saying about one of the faster jets during the F-4 Phantom era.

" The F-4 is proof that if you put enough power behind a brick you can make it fly" It couldn't handle as well as the opposing MIG's but... straight line fast... HOOOOOOO Doowgies!!!!!!

Not sure how it applies here but this is the kind of fun that makes this site the best on the web. It also helps pass the time till the hard water goes away!(with a smile on our faces!)

Ya Eric kinda fun. I think I need to put one of your lifts on to keep up with the Super 'Rude Ranger. Of course I will need to see RADAR Data on those high speed runs. Do you really think a brick er... a Ranger will go that fast? Perhaps the satelites were havin a bad day...;-) Seriously I do need a 35 kicker lift and I am also interested in the electrosteer.

One of the fastest boats I have ever seen was a Yar Craft Storm single side console (the one where the driver is sitting in the splashwell) with a CMC lift and a low water pickup. It would run in the low 70's GPS. Without a lift they are a dog IMHO given a 18ft. boat with a 225. Apparently if you can get enough of that clunky hull out of the water they can really run. You better have a firm grip on the wheel though...not very stable.

If you guys really want the fasted fishing boat the record is currently held by an Allison XB-2003 with a merc 225 promax on the back. It was clocked at 101.8 mph for a 2 run average. It may not handle the rough stuff too well, but it sure is fast.:-)

Why don't we just rig 8 Peterbilt truck engines in line on a garbage scow and have a real, mean machine? Toot! Toot!

Give Reggie Fountain a call, he will build you one fast walleye boat. You will probably need to wear a drag chute, like the boat drag racers wear.

Fastest? Bass Fishermen? Walleye Boats? This fella fishes bass and walleye from a 1962 Sea Ray 500. Fast? Not a chance. But it gets the job done and done well. 35 mph is quite fast enough for me.

So, is this 101.whatever actually in a "walleye boat" or some flat bottomed dishpan with some tornado strapped to the rear end? I suspect that it would be a bass boat or even more like a ski boat, very shallow draft and little hull touching the water at speed. Fill the live wells and bait wells, haul out some gear and a passenger and the speed goes to #####, I suspect.

This line of questions/answers/responses sounds like the Bass guys and the "races" from last summer's tourneys. Kind of silly.

AMEN LEE,
Those 6 mile runs on Mille Lacs are real tough when you get there in your "ROCKET SHIP" drop your bow-mount an can't hold in 3'ers!! RIDE ROCKET RIDE!
I also love to watch them burn-up 50.00 a day running from gravel to mud to gravel!! I can't wait to whack some giants!!

Hey Kevin,

Nah, way too many big words to be bassers talkin here! Just kidding! Actually, an Allison with a moderate tournament load will still fly. These are ultra High performance boats, and very dangerous in the wrong or inexperienced hands.

I also believe thwe 225 motors are much larger than the rating plate allows, thus voiding any warranty. I believe the boat is actually only rated for a 150.

I had the privaledge (misfortune?) to drive an Allison. The boat scared the H*ll out of me!!!!

Personally I like the topic and it gets my mind off work!

Have fun......R

I'm with ya,

I have a 200 merc kicker. Only kicked it once,(That was some hard black plastic, but my docter says I should be fishing again this spring) but have wanted to many other times. I've learned that my 9.9 kicker gets me home a lot faster than my 200 kicker at times. Nothing like cruising the lake at 6 mph.

As Emeril Lagasse says, "Let's kick it up a notch, BAM"

How scary?

Well, unlike any boat with hydraulic steering, you have to be absolutely positive when you move the wheel at speed. Also when the boat is up on the pad, any slight movement of the wheel has a very positive and sometimes dramatic effect on the boat.

It takes a great deal of practice and skill to wring one of these babies out to top speed. I made 6 passes at gradually higher speeds and chickened out at 80 mph, or there abouts.

You have to make constant corrections when a boat is basically running on a 2 foot wide 4 foot long section of the hull. It is a balancing act to be sure.

Also at speeds like these, knowing that what most of us call annoying traits like chine walk and yaw, will kill you if you dont correct then immediately on a high speed rig.

We now have padded walleye hulls but they are still much different than a Bass boat hull, and way different from an ultra high performance rig. There are a few super bass boats, I have driven the Allison and a Bullet, and ridden in a Norris Craft.

All 3 are fine boats and will literally fly. However, if you tried to run one in a Walleye chop, at super high speeds, well, youd kill the boat, and probably yourself.

The boat itself didn't really scare me, Allison makes a super fine boat. However, the speed coupled with all the knowledge of what could go wrong, and the feel of a balancing act, (AT 80 MPH :o ) was enough to scare the c*ap out of me. I made a few runs as a passenger and the scary feeling was not the same as when you have a Rocket by the steering wheel.

By the way, 80 or 90 mph on the water, in an open boat, feels much faster than 187 in a car. I know, I have done both. Speed is addictive, but I will take my 57 mph Ranger almost any day. Especially when there is a 2 foot chop.

Have fun......R

NF;
Thanks; I was wondering what kind of balancing act one had to perform at speed. Whew, if it started to chine walk.....and got ahead of your catch up....a personal drag chute would be nice. Thanks again for the info, some of us folks never get to experience a ride like that. Nice to hear how it works.

How true if I didn't run a tiller I'd have a bigger Merc than the 125 I got now. Some people are getting way too carried away with this.

Lee
02-03-2001, 11:52 AM
I love my tiller will never drive anything else. I like the room and the control...but i don't like to waste time drivin' slow. I get 43mph GPS out of out of my 125 Merc on my STORM. At least it doesn't take me forever to get from Hunters to the N flats. I'd rather be fishin than drivin' 32 mph....and I'd rather be in my boat than starin' at this snow! Melt melt melt.....please!

ezmarc
02-03-2001, 01:18 PM
Believe me when I say going 40mph in 2-3 foot waves is much better than going 15-20 in the same conditions, which is exactly what I did for 17 years until I bought a fast, dry, and comfortable Walleye boat last year. Top end doesn't matter much, but cruising at 40-45 is great and adds hours to my weekly fishing on Erie. My new boat can't make the fish bite any better, but it does give me more time to try! Besides I'd say there are several people here who think this is an interesting topic, with some great humor thrown in also!

As far as I am concerned, how a boat performs (speed and fishability) is useful information, especially in the "Boats and Motors" message board. You are probably the guy with the expensive boat that turned out to be slow and you're just disappointed. Obviously some people were interested or these two posts would not have nearly 100 replies between the two of them.

I fish alot in a allison (my buddy has one) and yes they are fast but once a couple years ago when we were cruising through some bumps out on Mille Lacs the motor (200 horse merc almost fell off. I'd never seen anything like it. There are four bolts holding the motor to the transom and two of them totally pulled through the fiberglass and the bottom two were bent and pulled out about half way. We could tell the instant this happened and stopped the boat before we lost the whole motor. We had to strap up the motor best we could with anchor rope and use the elecric bow mount to bring us in (very long ride. While fixing it the next day we couldn't believe that the motor was held on simply with 4 bolts with fender washers on the inside as backing. there was no support at all except for fender washers and fiberglass. While fixing it we backed it up with steel plates so it shouldn't happen again, but now when things are a little rough I insist that we take my Pro-V its not as fast but I know the motor will stay on.
