Pedestal Base question

Good evening all!!

Just a quick question regarding mounting an extra pedestal base in my boat. I have an Alumacraft Lunker Mag LTD console, and would like to put a pedestal across from the console chair. Alumacraft has for the factory pedestals, an aluminum plate that runs below the wood deck (for safety purposes of the base ripping out). Any of you put in a new base? I know it is not hard, but how has it held up under tougher running conditions?

I have put several in boats and we use a piece of 1/4" thick aluminum approximately 9" x 11" rectangle as a back up plate so there is no chance of pulling through the wood.
