Engines may develop fuel leaks and should not be operated without engine upgrade. Upgrade kit contains improvements for "electronic engine management," fuel system and engine cover modifications that will "improve venting and air flow under the motor cover." OMC notified its dealers about this problem shortly before filing for bankruptcy 12/22/00. It did not initiate a recall or notify owners. Upgrade kits may not be readily available.

This recall was for 1999 and 2000 model year engines and does not affect the new 3.3 liter 2001 engines.

Bummed about this whole mess

As if the whole OMC bankruptcy wasn't bad enough, now I find out OMC doesn't want me to operate my 2000 Ficht 200 hp until an upgrade is installed, which they will not pay for, if parts are even available.

Hmmmm...maybe I'll just run it, hoping the fuel leaks and burns the whole thing up, then I can make an insurance claim and get a motor with a warranty!

I hope this OMC mess is resolved soon. The ice is thinning.

Boats+gas leak+ explosion=big trouble. I would go with the fix and save the insurance for a rainy day.
