My 2000 'Rude was uncloaked last weekend from it's winter coverings. I supplied fresh gas, and it fired right up. Problem was, the waterpump flow indicator didn't stream any water. I thought maybe it was thermostatically controlled so continued to run it for about two more mins. Then I thought, I never have seen it "plugged" before, so I shut her down. I tried blowing in the tube and it was completely clogged. So, I got confused again......and read the manual. According to the text, it says the hose will spit water immediately. So this time I sucked on the tube, .......really, really hard. Well, you guessed it.......the clog came shooting out into my mouth! It was a bunch of leafy matter that was fermenting in there and was slighty sweet and tasted of alcohol. I think it was making some kind of wine in there. It appears that bugs have put pieces of leaves in there,......nesting perhaps?? Anyway, do any of you have the same problems?? Is it ok to put a golf tee in the hose during storage?...or does it need to "breathe"? Hope to hear from you soon.

I wouldnt worry too much about it either way. They can occasionally get clogged from lake debries sand etc,and when it sits for awhile can solidify. Just keep a thin wire handy of somesort so you can rod it out and unplug it if gets plugged. In my humble opinion, you should not plug it on purpose during the winter months. If any moisture develops for whatever reason , it needs to drain, otherwise it will freeze .
