My son wants me to buy him a bass tender for small ponds and a slow, lazy, local river. Any advice? Most small jon boats are too narrow and unstable.

I fish tournaments all over the country and have a new Walleye tournament boat and my partner has a new Bass Tournament boat and I also have a Bass Tender 11'3" boat and love it. I fish tons of small ponds that you can't get anything else in and use that boat 2 times a week. I bought the boat 2 years ago and looked at ever small boat on the market and without a doubt I made the right choice. They are very stable on the water, the live well works great, and there is plenty of room. Only advice I can give you is GET THE TRAILER with the boat. The first couple times out we thought we wouldn't need one WOW were we wrong. Those things are light in the showrooms but after fishing all day forget it. Hope this helps you out.

Hey Footdoc,

I had one of those 2 seat deals from bass pro a few years ago. I really didn't like it for what I was going to use it for. I thought it was tipsy, bulky and a bit heavy to keep carrying it around. I ended up selling it and looked a both Gheenoe and a Old Town Discovery Sport 17. I decided on the Old Town, not to bad to move around, great in rivers and with the pontoon stablizers, we found ourselves actually standing and fishing. We also use it for duck hunting. You can row it, paddle in it, install an electric motor and even run a 3.5hp outboard from it. Its alot easier to carry into the out of way "hidden" ponds from your parking spot. Another option is to get a wheel set that will fold up once you get to the waters edge and carry it with you.
Just a another option.
Good luck,
BarryM.
