I don't think it makes a diffreance.. Use what ever you are confortable with. If 50' on each side is managable, that gives a 100' sweep. Try 70' on each side, as you questioned, and if it is diffucult to control, pull them in until you feel they are working the best for you. I run a 25' and use the 50' on each side works best for me. Good luck FISHING....Kaz

Thanx CAZ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'll start at 70 foot - can shorten from there ( 50' to the P-Boards work great on a 17'Boat ). I've made many sets of Planer Boards that work great, made them before well known ~~~~~~~~~~~~ years ago. Redwood 1"x6"x28 with two 30 d angles for the leading or cutting edge - 3 Aircraft Alum 1/4" rods threaded on ends - 6" eyelet.

The minimum tow line length for full size planer boards should be 150' of line on each side. You sure don't have to put it all out, but on those quiet evenings you'll be glad you've got it. The larger charters in the central basin (where there isn't so much traffic) all have 300' on each side. But they run 5 lines on each side. You will no doubt want to run 3 and they are too close with only 70' of tow line. Good luck.

Mich: Do you use the dual boards with a spacer between them?? Or do you use the single board with a weight on the bottom?? I have made both, but prefer the dual boards. They seem to track better in the waves...Thanks Kaz.
