After years of running a tiller I finally switched over to a console. What are the best cleaners/methods for cleaning water spots, dirt, etc off of the plastic windshield? I know this has been covered a while back but I can not find it in the archives.
Thanks for any help!
Is winter ever going to end in MN??!!

Rince with water before wiping the grime. This will help reduce scratching. Windex works fine most of the time. For water spots try vinegar and water.

There is a post below about "wavewacker help" that talks about how to clean the wavewacker splash guards. It was mentioned there to put white vinegar in a spray bottle, then use warm soapy water. I think I will give this method a try for both my splash guards and my windshield.

I use Meguiar's No. 18, Clear Plastic cleaner/polish. Works great, removes any fine scratches and grime. Will not scratch. Also use it on depth sounder and gps screen. good luck.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-01-01 AT 00:49AM (CST)[p]Pledge furniture polish or most other brands will work. Its been used for years on aircraft windows. Pledge has a no streak brand that works great. Don't use anything that contains ammonia, it will degrade plastic (some glass cleaners have ammonia)

Strong second the on Meguiar # 18. Been using it for 20+ years to remove junk and scratches from anything made of plastic.

Always use a plastic cleaner and polish. These are available at any auto parts store. Never use paper towels for cleaning only clean soft cloth. Paper towels are made of wood fiber and will scratch the plastic. TGG

Rain-X. That's all you need to know. I discovered while worjking on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska many moons ago, and I have seen it in Wal-Marts the last couple years. Just keep the windshield coated regularly.

Meguiar's Mirror Glaze works well on my aircraft cockpit windows as well as the boat windscreen for removing scratches. Jeweler's rouge works well also. Keeping your windscreen clean is easy with hot, soapy water and a soft cotton towel. Never use paper towels or harsh fabric. Good luck.

Go to your local small airport, they sell cleaner/scratch remover for airplane windshields. The best you will find.

Dont waste your money on anything special. I deal with aircraft windshields on a daily basis and all you need to use is meguirs for polishing out minor scratches if they are deep enough that the meguirs doesnt do it, locate a kit called micro mesh (its basically a bunch of different grade sand papers) by starting off with the course and working your way to the finest youll blend any scratch out. regular maintenance should include cleaning with water and a mild soap and soft cloth.

Your local Yamaha ATV, snowmobile and/or Motor cycle shop has a product called "windscreen cleaner"
It works well.
