It's probably been asked and answered dozens of times, but is there a "do-it-yourself" method to get the condensation out of a locator/depthfinder? It's an older, cheap unit and not worth a trip to the "shop". Maybe it's time to upgrade.

i remember the other threads on this subject and i dont recall
a fix. sooner or later the moisture will do its damage and the
unit will quit working.

the good news is, todays units are much better than the one you
currently have.

good luck

If I were guessing I'd say you have an Eagle! Your finder is a sealed unit like a rifle scope that is packed with nitrogen, the fogging/moisture comes because nitrogen has leaked. The only true fix is back to factory for a new seal. Eagle has had a real problem in the past. They tried to tell myself and several others I know of that problem was created by leaving unit mounted under boat cover where excessive heat accumilates. After factory repairs I was carefull that unit was always well taken care of and lost 2 more seals. Point I'm trying for here is heat may be a factor but seals weren't of best quality in some of these units either.

I was told by Eagle/Lowrance of a method that may help temporialy. Plug in the power cord but not the transducer cord for about 30 min. The heat will help dry moisture. If possible do this 30 min. prior to each use.

I had that problem in my lowrance x85. Dealer said to
leave the back light on even in the daylight. It
seems to do the trick.

We took our unit apart, dried with kleenex, put it back together and had the same problem with moisture. The next time we wiped it out,let it dry over night then used a can of compressed air a copier repairman told us about and sprayed it good. Used silicone bead around the seal and the crack in the case. Its worked fine for 2 years now. We do bring it in the cabin overnight to prevent condensation etc.
