I want to get a drift sock for my boat but have noticed that it will cost about $100 Canadian to get one. Has anyone made their own drift sock. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to make one and I was wondering if anyone has had success doing it.
Thanks.
Easy,
The very cheapest way, that will last for a season or two, is to buy a plastic tarp - about $4, sew on 4-6 nylon straps out the outside for webbing, about $8, and sew loops in the end for tying on the rope.
If you want a long term sock, buy some heavy high quality nylon - will be about $15 for 3 yards, and then sew up.
If you can borrow a buddies - sock that works well, you can use it for a pattern to cut the shape of the sock. All socks are not created equal, some don't deploy, some spin, and some are great.
Take care

You would be better off to use a 5 gallon bucket. While not in use you can use it for storage, etc.
By the time you get the materials and accessories that will hold up for a season or more you you will have come close to the cost of a manufactured one.
