Hey Guys,
Need some advice as far as Amsoil is concerned. Saw some today at my local Champion auto parts place. The Label does not specifically say it's only for outboards but includes snowmobile,, PWC's and all other 2 cycle engines. It does mention
"for TCW-3 applications" I assume that this is the right stuff for my boat motor. It's $4.99 a quart. Is that about right? Just wanting to make sure I'm gettin' the right stuff. The manager said he's stocking it for the snowmobilers and has never sold any to a boater.

Perfect for the boat and a decent price. You can buy it directly from your area distributor a a little less, but that might not be convenient. Go to the web site (WWW.Amsoil.com) and find out who would be closest to you. You can also become a perfered customer and buy direct, but you have to do a certain volume to maintain the price level.

I have used it for years and love it. Smokeless and less carbon build up as a result. I use the 2 cycle oil in all my 2 cycle engines with great satisfaction. I also run teh 5W in the trucks every so ofton. I wish my auto parts store carried it.

AquaMan,
Do you run the Amsoil at the recomended mix ratio (I believe its 100:1)? My family (father and brothers) and I have run Amsoil in almost every 2 cycle engine we own from snowmobiles to boat motors to motorcycles for 15+ years with no complaints. However we tend to use a mixture of 32:1 rather than the 100:1. First, because some of the engines take a lot of abuse and we feel more confident with the richer mixture. Second, because at 100:1 the jetting on the carb might require some adjusting due to the thinner mixture.
I'd be curious to hear from anybody who actually runs their motors with the recomended 100:1 mixture.

Use the Injector Oil @ 50:1.

When a oil manufacture indicates that their oil can be mixed at 100:1 that means that the product will provide adequate lubrication for equipment that calls for 100:1. You should mix at the equipment manufactures specified ratios. ;)

Kieth:I have been running Amsoil for about a year in my 15 and 18 horse Evinrudes.Love the stuff.MUCH less smoke than conventional two cycle oils.MUCH less plug fouling. The 100 to one mix ratio had me concerned at first, but I blend oil for a local oil company, and conventional two cycle oil contains a high percentage of solvent to get the additives into a free flowing liquid.Amsoil or any synthetic oils of any kinds are totally different technology than conventional oils.Don`t worry about the mix ratio calling for 100 to one. That`s the way it is meant to be used.Good stuff.Synthetic oils outperform conventional oils.PERIOD.Motor oils, gear oils, two cycle oils, you name it.

I swithced to Amsoil synthetic last season. Big reason was that it supposedly burned cleaner with less fumes. My exhaust seems to route all the smoke thru my passengers when trolling with the wind and I get alot of sea sick partners. After running 2 gallons while trolling Erie last year I still had just as much smoke and sea sick partners. Not sure I'll stick with it when it gets used up.

Nope, I run the middle. If the motor used to take 30:1 and Amsoil can run 100:1 I run 60:1. Just as a precaution. Especially in the hard worn engines. I have a '50s era 18HP that is on the duck boat and that bugger runs through some awefull thick muck every season and still starts first pull evertime. Even when I drag it out of storage. I've been running Amsoil for 6 years now and have no complaints.

I look at it this way, when you really need to rely on those motors, it does not hurt to run them a tish richer with oil. It is far cheaper to replace a plug then a cylinder. The sleds, outboards, etc I run 60:1 The mowers, weed trimmers, etc I run the 100:1. Either way, these all run with little or considerably less smoke and fouling then with traditional oils with the extra mix, so I am still ahead of the game.

Did you change the ratio or were you mixing the same as the your regular oil? The Amsoil is synthetic and can be mixed with a lighter ratio. Just a thought.
