Purchased 2 SG 27 linecounters. What's the best way to spool these for trolling? I'm torn between mono and Fireline. How do you spool?

Thanks, whw

Mono, hands down, for trolling in-line planer boards. Superlines for pulling dipseys. I tried fireline for boards last year and was not happy with it's performance. I think I'm used to the stretch of mono so it's easier for me to work with. Just my opinion.

I have 6 diawa line counters and have 3 of them spooled with 10 lbs. triline xt clear, the other 3 I have 10-4 fire line with the fire line you have to use mono backing to get the right distance with the fire line I ussally put a 125 yard spool of fire line on .rick

Ditto to Jerry...mono all the way...I spool mine with 10lb. XT with a backer behind it...what you use for backing isn't really that important (I've been using that free stuff we got from the NPAA last year)....be sure and fill the spool up that way your counter will give you the most accurate reading. Good luck fishin'!

Fireline. Been using it for yrs. and would not change back to mono for any reason you can give against fireline. I use the Snapper releases fron Wille/Off-shore and see no drawbacks to fireline. Use a soft tip rod and loosen the drags appropriately and fireline works great.

Fireline all the way. 10-4 or 6-12. Back it with 100-150 of mono to get a correct reading and purchase a long, light rod. Ugly sticks work great for me. I use planner boards and have no problem. With the fireline, you can feel and see a hit pulling plugs.

another vote for 125 yards of 10/4 fireline with mono backing. works great, plus cranks will run deeper!!
