Any of you that have this motor, I am wondering what hull speed you get? On what size/weight boat. Finally what pitch prop do you use. I am thinking of purchasing this motor and putting it on a 16ft 700lb side console boat.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry forgot to say I tryed MANY props. 3bld, 4bld,and ss. the best for ME - proformance/cost, was the factory 12p. the fastest was the 3bld ss but only by 1.3 mph.

I had a 1995 Yamaha 50 four stroke on a 1650 crestliner pro/am sc. Ran about 30 mph with full load and two to three people. Great motor for fishing but it was too much work trying to tube adults behind it. But for fishing, I loved the quiet, gas use and changing the oil and filter wasn't that messy.... Keep your rod tip up...

Dave will the 50 go slow enough to troll at idle? Any idea about what speed you go?

Yes my prefered way to fish is trolling and it's fine . Maby not as slow as the 40 2st. but fine for cranking most of the time, if I need slower I use the front troll. I actualy bought mine used its a 95 but was dry for 3yrs. so Im sure a new one will be iver better. I troll at about 750rpm. 1.8 gps???
