Add in Bass and Walleye boats mag from Boyesen Reeds (sp?)claims "Bolt on Power". Wondering if anyone has changed over to these reeds on a Merc V6 power head? How hard is the job? Can a regular guy with the right tools do it?

Finally, and most importatant, did you see significant improvement?

Thanks,

Stan

JKL,

Haven't put them in, so cannot answer your first question. Test articles I have seen seem to indicate a 3-4 hp gain on a 150, although the Boysens have been reported to allow motors to rev higher without being limited by uncontrollable reed flutter. (watch out though, the plastic oil injection gears cannot survive a high rpms and have been known to fail)

I have never used them in an outboard but have used them in my motocross bike when I used to race them. WOW what a difference over stock metal reeds. Cheap mod also. I have heard that some bass fisherman use them and love em. Shouldn't be much problem to install yourself either.

Had em installed on my old Mariner Mag 150. I didn't install em then but I think I would try it now. As far as what they do,,,,,,great throttle response, better idle,,and as funny as it may sound. It sounded better (really growled) Do it! Cheap upgrade and alot less expensive if you suck a stainless petal at 6150 rpm's !!!!
Good luck and let us know what you do.
