new to lindy rigging, number one what are the best type rods for this. number 2 when backtrolling and fish are marked do you usually shift to neutral and hover over the spot or keep going through them.

lindy rigging is done very slowly......letting the bait wiggle
or swim. keep moving as you go thru the fish on your graph.

if your drift gets quicker or you feel the need to move faster
put on a spinner rig.

as far as what rod to use someone else may have a better insite
on that one. but use very light line (6 or 4 pound test).

One of the more interesting things you'll find about anglers is they have different styles and preferances and each angler swears that their method will produce the most fish.

Take jigging for example. Some fisherman gently lift the rod tip 18" every 10 seconds, some jerk it every 3 seconds and some just let a rocking boat put on the action. On the same subject some like a limber jigging rod, some like a light tip with a stiff backbone and some like a pool cue. No correct answer because each has it's place.

As to your questions. I like a limber tip that telegraphs the tap-tap-tap, with a semi-stiff backbone that let's me set the hook and control the fish. I don't maintain a set speed when dragging a live bait and sometimes stoping is an excellent way to trigger a strike, if that's what the fish want.

Experiment and don't assume that there is one correct answer to any fishing question. The pros are pros because they can rapidly adapt to what the fish want, on any given day.

Tony I would have to say that the typical rigging rod is going to be 6 to 7 1/2 feet long with a light to medium action fished with 4 to 8 pound test line.My personal choice is a 7 foot,medium/light action with alot of backbone and 6lb test line (G.Loomis 8400 IMX,Berkley Sensi-Thin)there are other good rods that are'nt as expensive that will work for you.As for your second question,if I pass thru fish that I have marked but had no hits I will definately go back thru for a second pass and generaly hover over them and try an intice a bite.I may also switch baits or colors or even presentations if need be.If the fish are just not actively feeding, mark them on your plotter and come back later.
