Called Lowrance today, they suggested I reboot (hold down start, zoom in and zoom out buttons until the start screen goes away). Worked like a charm the GPS is working, mapping is working, sonar is working, and everything looks good, I'm in business again. Fortunately I didn't have to send anything in.

Now to buy and see how the navionics maps work.

I have had mine for 2 months, and have only had minor problems till tonite. To start off with, I had to download v1.5 for the mapping capabilities to be read. I did this, and the unit has worked flawlesly since then. I have been seeing all the updates coming thru and decided to put V1.9 in, so I installed it yesterday. Hit the water tonite, and everything was going fine. I finished up by casting a piece of shoreline for about an hour, while my unit was running on the dash. When I went to go home, my depth guage was flashing 1596 ft deep on the 2000 scale.. I knew this was not good. I shut the unit off, and restarted it and it stayed on the 2000 scale, but flashed the infamous 60 ft. I am going back into the previous posts, to read what that means, but If I can remember right, I think it smoked a transducer on me. I guess I'll be calling Lowrance first thing in the morning. I dont know what v1.9 does, but if it is supposed to stop the transducer problems, it doesnt work.

I went back and read all the posts about the unit, and it sounds like a bad transducer. My opener is this weekend, but it is not a big deal for me, but next weekend is going to be a big deal.. I cant hardly wait to read the posts in here if these units dont work thru the Minnesota opener. I'd like to know who tested these things, and how long were they in testing.

I have a new transducer on the way. They gave me a procedure to follow to try to fix it on the water, but it didnt work either. Only this time it read 357.4 ft all the time instead of 60.

Reddog, I'm curious if you were using the 50mhz mode shortly before the transducer died. Supposedly the 1.9 software would fix the problem of burning out the transducers. I'm afraid to even try the 50mhz again, can't have my unit dead again during the best fishing of the year. Maybe yours was just a random failure, not related to the known problem... hard to know for sure. good luck!

Red: Mine arrived today and has the 1.9 software..Is this going to be OK to your knowledge??? What do you think....?? Please advise. Kaz

LAST EDITED ON May-02-01 AT 03:07PM (CST)[p]LAST EDITED ON May-02-01 AT 03:06*PM (CST)

My last conversation with LEI this afternoon, was that they are treating this as a random failed tranducer, nothing more, nothing less. I am OK with that. They were interested in the fact that I had just installed V1.9, and were going to make note of that fact but were not too worried about any additional problems, as no others have surfaced to date, other than mine. They said they just ran a 4 day tounament down there with no problems with the units. Opening day, less than 3 days away, and counting down . I dont like the fact that I have to open up the back end of my boat again to reinstall the new trans, but I will do it willingly again if everything works OK after that. Happy fishing!

Kaz, I dont think you have any choice, except to put it in, and go fishing. I wouldnt put your old unit on the rummage sale

yet tho.

JBL, I dont have the dual transducers, only the 200khz.

Kaz and Reddog, please keep the posts coming, I'll let you know how I come out with my unit, new 'ducer should be here Thur. I got real sick of being on hold FOREVER while on the phone to Lowrance, you guys have the same trouble? My unit screwed up before I installed the 1.9 update, the way I understand it is that if the unit is ran and the 'ducer gets fried the 1.9 wont help because its already smoked and the only fix to it is to get a new transducer. I also would like to know how much testing was done on these, before they were turned loose on the genral public, sounds like there is a lot of unhappy campers out there. THANK GOD FOR WALLEYE CENTRAL, if it wern't for you guys I'd be lost, as I'm the only one that I know that has one of these "fine units". Keep me posted, THANKS

News Flash!!! The Love Hate relationship continues with this unit. I wanted to go fishing tonite anyway, so i threw the unit into the boat and headed to the water. Since I had already tried to reset on the water at noon today to no avail, I thought it wouldnt hurt to take the unit along and try some things out. I got on the water and turned it on, and it came up flashing the infamous 60 ft. I then proceeded to reset it by holding in on the pages button while turning the unit on. It will beep at you after about 4 or 5 seconds, signalling the completion of the reset. Now mind you that I had done this same procedure twice already today, and this was the third try today, but was the only try where I actually had some decent water underneath me. The first try was just in the garage, the second try was backed into the boat ramp far enough to wet the transducer, and this third try was actually on the lake. What happened you ask??? Bango, just like new again, no problems all nite long. Tne unit worked flawlessly tonite. I wonder what they will say in the morning. Hey Coondog, have you tried the resetting feature on the water yet?? Let me know. Fishing report you ask?? 3 walleyes, 1 small musky, and 1 carp. And 1 real nice depthfinder/gps unit again. Happy fishing!

I had a problem locking up like that most of the time, got the new transducer installed and it worked fine on one lake in the morning, went to another lake after lunch and it worked until I sat for a while in shallow water. The locator started to display deep readings, after restarting I got the flashing 60, now what I did was to go to manual depht and set it to 10 foot and turned the sensitivity down, it finally found the bottom and worked the rest of the day.

Spent most of the morning, in the rain, installing the new transducer, wired it up and hit the start button, 60ft. and flasing, called Lowrance and they told me how to do the reboot deal, did that, yup, still flashing 60ft. Spent the next hour on the phone waiting to talk to a real person. Boy am I sick of this #$*@ Lowrance never once asked for me to send it back, for them to check it out, but they did take my credit card no. for ins. so I would send the old 'ducer back. My opener is tomorow, Im going to give this one more try, after that I guess I'll have to go back to my dealer and insist on my money back, nobody should have to go through this much crap, with a 1000.00 sonor unit. I already know that trying to get my money back is going to hard, I hope I dont lose my temper, but a grand is an awfully lot of money for something that simply is junk. Kaz and Reddog, how are you coming? Coondog

LAST EDITED ON May-05-01 AT 06:24AM (CST)[p]Coondog, It took three times for my system reboot to take effect. I dont know if it was because I was actualy on the water when I did it the third time, but it did finally take that time. The first time was just in the garage, and that changed scale for me, but no real difference in the reading. Which reboot did you do to your unit? It looks like the reboot that they told EZMARK to do is different than the one they told me to do. Have you gone in an tried system reset also? This is a different deal than the reboot, and can be found in system setup. This worked for me on a different deal, and maybe it will work for you.

Coondog, Did you have the boat in the water when you tried that new transducer? You won't get anything but the 60ft reading when "drydocked". Hopefully you can get it fixed soon, I know how frustrating this is.

Team Alto, I'm having the same problem with my unit in shallow water, losing the bottom etc. My X85 was a better unit that this one is. I'm starting to think this a $1000 piece of CRAP.

Season opener was today, was ready for this thing to give me fits again, ##### thing worked like a charm, gave perfect bottom readings. I installed a new 'ducer yesterdayand it must have worked, while at home it flashed at 60ft. got it in the water and went right to6ft. and never missed a beat all day. Once I got home I tried it again"drydocked" and its reading 2ft. Im keeping my fingers crossed, I have this week off work, prefishing for a tourny. all week, if it holds up til next sat. Ill believe that they got the bugs out. Coondog

I've had my unit on the water 3 times now and everytime it impresses me more with all it can do. It's working great since that initial disappointment and I hope it stays that way. I still find it harder to read than my 350A when it is wet and cold but during bright sun it is very easy to see.

I haven't found a way to show the digital info display on the split map/sonar screen. Has anyone else? It would be nice to show the GPS speed on this combo. The menu is huge and I'm sure there must be a way.

I'm happy with it and hope all the rest of you get your problems resolved and that mine don't return. I haven't purchased an Avionics map yet, they seem kind of pricey to me, so I think I'll wait, either for prices to come down or someone else to come up with something compatible.

Thanx Guys!

I was about to rip into my dealer. (Boy, my saga there continues)
I tried rebooting useing the Enter & 2 wpt keys,
all that happened was I put 3 "Man overboard" icons on my screen.
I logged back on WC and looked up the correct way to reboot &
"Bam" there we go, I have a Transducer again.

Thanks again!

See ya on the water!

Butch, its a great feeling when it comes back isnt it! Mine has been working great. I wonder what all the ppl that dont have computers are doing with their units?? If you dont have a computer, you should not look into this unit, or it will be $1000 for the unit and $1500 for a new computer. Hey Coondog, How are you getting along now?? Any new stuff to tell us about? I have a question, Can I move my gps Speed to the sonar page. I have the temp and speed wheel, but have not installed it yet, as I am concerned about spending any more $ on this thing till I know it is going to be dependable. If I install the speed/temp module, will I be able to get my groundspeed onto my sonar desktop for lack of a better term?

You can put any of the digital info onto any page that has the digital read out along the left side.

aaaaaaahhhgggg. I just don't understand. When I hit the water the unit works great. After about a 1/2 hour, the unit just blinks 60ft or 456ft? I have the dual transducers and if I go in and select the other and then set it on both again it seems to work again... for about 30 min. Then it just blinks the same depths over and over!

Ya also... I am also wondering how to get the GPS water speed to be labeled where the water temp is listed on the sonar sceen in the corner?

Now, I haven't upgrade since 1.6 because of all the talk of blowing transducers. Will upgrading it to 1.9, or is 2.0 out yet, fix this problem?

i dont understand why anybody would order the dual trans. from what i understand all anybody who would be fishing inland fresh water lakes would need is the 200KHZ(not mhz) and that the 50khz is for deeeeep water! i think that a lot of problems are arising soley from this dual freq. trans. good luck! oh ya and why the speed and temp? temp is built into the 200khz trans. and speed can be read with gps!!

I would like to have 1/2 screen with graph, 1/2 screen with map, and GPS speed on the screen at the same time for trolling. I don't think this thing will do that. Will it? If so, how please. Stephen

Anxious, I use the 50 khz. so it doesnt interfere with a humming bird unit that I have up in the bow area, the x-15 is mounted on the drivers console, so far no interferance at 50khx. when I switch to the 200 khz. the hummingbird begins to fly. Thats why I have the dual 'ducer. Reddog, so far so good, was out today fpr 8 hrs. the only trouble I had was it switched freq. on me once? other than that its working great. Coondog

I was wondering how most of you have the plotter set up on the X-15MT.As of now I have mine set on auto.Is that the best way to have it set or the fastest for updating the trail?
Thx for the info.

I've got an X-15 and have had my fair share of problems with it. I've had the 60ft problem and the 1956' and 357'. I've seen them all. I'm glad that I didn't run and replace the transducer everytime someone said it was smoked.

I upgraded to version 1.9 and have not had a problem since. Works great. I fish both the rivers for steelhead and the great lakes for salmon. The 200 kHz unit will not mark my cannonball or give me good marks in 100' of water where the 50kHz unit will. I will set them in the dual sonar page and set the sensitivity the same. The 200 kHz just doesn't do that good of a job in the deeper water. (Ball was only down 60').

I used the 200 kHz in the Detroit river this spring and it worked well (when it was working), while the 50 kHz would not. I'm happy to have the dual transducer.

Good luck.

1st off, My unit is working really great except for the temp reading staying on 32. I called Lowrance about it and got right through to them. Even though the unit is working well they want me to send it in and have it replaced.

The tech I talked to thinks there is still a problem (possibly in the wire from the transducer) and they'd like to look at it and will send me a new unit, with a new tranducer. They said they will ship my new unit right away and won't wait for my old one to get there.

They also told me the original reboot that I did was for a complete reloading of the unit, like reloading Windows on your computer. It wipes out all settings, entered maps, and makes it like brand new. So if you do it like my original post, be prepared to lose everything. They suggest the page key and start button method of rebooting for most cases. The tech compared it to Control, Alternate, Delete on your computer.

Lowrance has been very helpful each time I've talked to them, just as they were with my 350A. I will say that this unit will lift fish off the bottom where the 350A doesn't even see them and it works great at speed. I'm happy with it and Lowrance. Now to get the bugs worked out!

The support that I received was very, very poor. Would anyone be able to provide the names of any of the Lowrance reps who were helpful, maybe I keep getting the same bad egg. Maybe I'll get mine back this week, if it still has problems this thing is gone and I'll be adding a second Pinpoint to my boat.
