I bought a fig rig rod late last year and used it a couple of time before the ice. Very please with its feel. I was re-spooling the reel on it this weekend and noticed that the reel seat appears to be upside down. I looked at all my other spinning rods and the adjustable reel holding ring is always the bottom one. On the FigRig rod it is the opposite, the adjustable ring is the top one. The only difference is that my hand rests on the reel seat threads instead of cork. I was just wondering if any other FigRig owners spinning rods are the same?
Thanks for any input.

the fig rig fiber max and the loomis glx are set up with the reel seats in exactly the same position. the fig rig rod has a reel seat that is re-inforced with a metal band. the loomis glx reel seat is a solid plastic construction.
there is a possibility your rod was constructed with the reel seat upside down. the reel seat should tighten from the front of the reel when the reel is on the fig rig rod.
if you have concern that there is a problem with the design, you can contact kevin at figrigrods.com.
good luck fishing.

also, figrigrods.com will provide most of their rods with a tennessee style handle that allows you to decide how you will attach the reel to the rod.
my partner prefers the fig rig rod with a tennesse handle and i fish fig rig rods with reel seats. whatever you prefer, they can do.
have a good day.

I would doubt that it is a mistake. That is a a topic that shows up on rod building boards regularly. Up or down locking reel seats. Some people like them to lock up, some like them to lock down. Purely personal preference. I prefer the threads towards the butt of the rod, up locking.

Mine threads up above the reel as well, and I don't think it's a mistake. I, too, would prefer the threads on the lower end, but I love the rod anyway.
You need to check in with figrig before ordering the rod.
I am sure that they would have no problem reversing the reel seat on a different rod.
It isn't practical, nor reasonable to tear a built up rod apart to switch the seat, but can easily be done on a new rod.
I build lots of custom rods, and altough most folks want the reel locking at the bottom of the reel, I have a fair number of clients who prefer the reel locking at the top of the reel.
Personal preference. Just notify the rod builder, before building the rod, your preferences.
Take care

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't realize that rods were made both ways. I only have the one fig rig rod and it is a fibermax. My others are St. Croix's. I really like the figrig and the reel seat only struck me as different. I can't really say whether I have a preference of up or down locking reel seat. I just wanted to check if mine was a fluke or not. Now I know it was not.
Can't wait to use it.
