Maybe someone can help me. I have a Garmin 126. This unit was purchased in 98. I have it interfaced with my Bottomline fish finder, so I'm using the Garmin antenta for both units. The problem is that this unit won't stay locked on to the satelites. It works for a while then it starts beeping and tells me to reinitiate. I then turn it off and on then it tries allocating but never able to find the the signals. I called Garmin but they told me to push the page and the on/off button simultaneously, that did not solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Larry.

Larry, I have a 128 and it works great. Your 126 has an internal antenna, where do you have unit mounted??

I use a GPS unit frequently for forestry work. We use a Trimble Pro-XR. It is a backpack unit with sub-meter accuracy. I'm not sure how many satellites you need or their placement in the sky with your fishing units, but this year is going to be bad for GPS work because of solar flare activity. There is some days when we are unable to use our unit because of this. If you want to see what the solar flare acivity is for the current time and a prediction for the next 2 days, look at spaceweather.com. It is a bit on the technical side, but if you muddle through it there is some good information.

I am not familiar enough with the units you guys are using, but I would look into solar flare acivity.
