I have a Lund 1700 Pro Sport with a new Suzuki 115 4 stroke with 2.5 hours on it. The engine is mounted in the second hole, but I feel it should be lower as it doesn't need much trim. It comes out of the hole fine with a 24 pitch prop but seems to be lacking is top end. Runs alittle slower than my old engine, but it is new. The motor is really smooth and quiet. Any thoughts on engine height and Lund boats. Thanks

Try the third hole up. That seems to be the sweet spot for many Lunds.

You want to lower it, but anxious to raise it?
24pitch prop on a 115? But has good hole shot?
Oh ya fer shure. (An who is yer dealer?) Someboddy is having fun, I tink?
May be I miss-unnerstand?

Ole, I hear some doubt in your message. I'm currently in the second hole with a Power Tech, 3 blade 24 pitch prop. Im' getting a good whole shot but I'm still looking for alittle more. This is a new motor and it should get better with a few more hours. This is my second Suzuki and I think this new engine will prove to be a very good engine. Please e-mail if you want more info.

The doubt he is casting has to do with the rare case of a 115 running a 24 pitch prop on a walleye hull. I admit I don't know your engines gear ratio or the hull weight, but most 24 pitch props are strapped to 175 to 225 engines. What rpms are you running at WOT with the 24? I run a yammi f115 on an alumacraft and it turns a 17 pitch prop in the proper rpm window. If I go with a rally light load, I can turn a 19 to about 5500. If you want more advice, we need more info.
I know we hardly have the same boat/motor combination but I just put a new Suzuki DF30 on my Lund Rebel 16 Tiller. The first 3 hours of break in I had the motor set all the way down and trim angle slightly up, one hole from transome since I don't have PTT. I ran briefly ran WOT a couple times and only reached 5400 RPM and 27 MPH. I was expecting a little more than that. When I got home I raised the motor 2 holes to get the cavitation plate closer to the bottom of the boat and lowered the trim angle all the way. The next day out I reached 5800 RPM and 30 MPH at WOT. Not much more I can do now except drop to an 11 pitch from the 12 I'm at now. I do love this Suzuki though. The only 4 stroke I tried that had all the performance of a comparable 2 stroke. Hope this helps.

Ole I'm sorry your right I did sound alittle confused. Which way to go up or down, I didn't know. Since then I have called Lund and talked to their rigger. My cavitation plate should be within a 1/2 to 1 inch of the bottom of my hull. This would put me in the third hole which could be about right. My boat is a 1995 Lund 1700 Pro SportThe boat alone weighs around 1,100 pounds and the engine weight is 416 lbs.. Add me, some fuel and gear and I would guess we're adding another 400 pounds. The new Suzuki has a gear ratio of 2.59:1. Maximum hp is suppose to develope around 5800 rpm. I haven't been to WOT as I don't have enough hours on the engine. So far around 44mph at 5000 rpm. It seems to want to run at 4000 rpm which gives me 28mph on the speedomter and about the same on my 7520. As far as the hole shot I've got to stick to my original statement it's not bad and the prop is a 24 pitch. What am I looking for, any advice that would help me tweak this thing for really good performance. I can come back after this weekend with some WOT Info. Thanks for your help. Walleye Central is great for a guy like me.

Wow. Old Fisherman, I have a '99 1700 ProSport with a '99 Merc two stroke 115 on it. I spin a 19" prop, hole shot's fine, wot runs around 44-45 mph trimmed up with a light load at around 5000 to 5100 rpm. (Recommended wot operating range 4750-5250 rpm). Can't believe you're spinning a 24" wheel on that 115! I heard those Suzi's are real nice. There weren't any 115 4 strokes available (to my knowledge) when I bought my rig in the summer of '98, and I like it fine, but I might be just a little jealous when you 4 stroke guys whisper by...Good fishing....John.

I have a 1775 lund with FICHT 115 mounted in top hole. Tried turning a 19 inch alum and 19 stainless, but just couldn't get a good hole shot, went with a 17 stainless, excellent hole shot and nice top end at 3/4 trim 5750 rpms running 44 gps speed, by running in that bottom/3rd hole is why you can turn a 24? Less prop biting into the water? Get after em...
