I purchased a 2001 1700 Angler SS with a Ficht late last year, and I've come to find that the Fuel gauge isn't working correctly (it always shows full). Obviously, the boat is still under warranty, but if it's a small fix (or simple a rigging issue), then I'd rather take care of it then to take the boat to the dealership where it can wait in the line of boats getting ready for spring.
Any ideas on where to start?
Thanks!

I had the same problem with my Pro-v,the dealer just laughed and said tell me something I don't know. They replaced the sending unit twice, the gauge, all the wiring, the float, you name it they've done it.Still never worked.I just got in the habit of filling up before each use. It's a mystery! My buddy who now owns the boat reports it still dos'nt work.
LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-01 AT 07:53AM (CST)[p]Unfortunately this is a common problem. I replaced mine myself with a unit that I bought at Bass Pro (Teleflex I think). It was really easy to replace the defective sending unit (pull up floor board, unscrew about 6 bolts holding sender in the tank, measure tank depth, prepare new sender, screw in place, attach wires). The instructions are really clear. I realize that this is something that the dealer is obligated to do, but in a sick and twisted way I didn't really mind because it gave me the opportunity to examine the under-floor area of the boat and better understand what is there and how it's put together should a problem arise. Another sender unit option is one produced by Livorski Marine out of Grayslake, Illinois. This sender is an "automobile" style that doesn't show wild tank level fluctuations depending upon the attitude of the boat. A little more expensive but something I may go with this season. I believe that Miksup, who posts on this board, is very familiar with this sending unit. Hope this helps.

Several people have had this problem, including me. Mine was fixed with a trip to the dealer but the general consensus was the best fix was to replace it with a Livorski unit. Not cheap at $60 but according to this board, much better. Livorski's phone number is 847-548-5900.

THEY VE GOT THIS ONE RIGHT-FACTORY GAUGE SUCKS- YOUR FUEL GUAGE WILL READ FULL TILL YOU HAVE ABOUT A 1/3 OF A TANK LEFT THEN IT WILL FALL LIKE A ROCK-IM ALSO LOOKING INTO THE AFTER MARKET FUEL SENSOR AS DESCRIBED IT HAS BEEN RECOMMENDED BY MANY LUND OWNERS
Anyone know if Livorski have a website?

Yes, but it is Livorsi, not Livorski. I bought a sending unit last year and now they keep sending me catalogues.

Livorsi Marine, 10 Gaffrig Drive, Grayslake, Ill. 60030. www.livorsi.com. 847-548-5900. I wish Livorsi would offer me a kick-back on everything they've sold to people whom I've referred to them. Absolutely great product line, including the best gauges on the market.

I just got my 2001 Lund 1775 SE and heard of all the complaints about the fuel guage. I went to fill the boat for the first time and used a 6 gallon can so I can mix my oil with the gas on my first tank to run the recommended 25:1 breakin ratio for my Mercury. I turned the key on and the fuel guage followed perfectly to the ratio of gas in the tank. I did make sure that I unhitched and leveled the boat while doing this so unless something breaks or shifts, looks like mine is right on the mark!

Unfortunately, what your fuel gauge reads while at rest sitting on a trailer is rather unimportant. What is important is what it reads and how steady it reads it while the boat is pitching and rolling on a body of water. No offense intended.

Point well taken Miksup; however, my father has a 2000 Tyee and his guage is working just fine as well and that is on the water. I work in the electronics industry and very well understand the tolerance problems of certain components. The integrity of those tolerances is even more compromised when you mix mechanical with electronic which is the case with the cheap Lund gas guage.
I was not trying to defend the guage of Lund, merely stating that so far so good with mine. I have had 6 Lunds over the last 15 years, 3 had gas guages and only 1 (excluding this one) was somewhat accurate. I will be interested in checking this on the water to see how the guage works. Unless in 2' or less seas, I don't see the guage reading as significantly accurate anyway. Too much sloshing around. I subscribe to the filler up mentality typically anyway :)
Go easy on the Lunds boys, my Triton has the same problem. Dealer said most companies use the same gauge and many malfunction. Mine only worked properly on the first tank of gas.
It was a new boat so I thought I was getting great mileage. Thank God for the auxilliary tank! Dealer mailed me a new gauge and said it was easy to install. That's the first order of business when the shrink wrap comes off next week. I hope it's just the gauge, you guys are scaring me with all this talk of sending units and removing floor boards!
