The local FleetFarm in Lakeville MN has diawa lc47's on 8.5 ft fiberglass trolling rods brand name Heartland as a combo for $99.99. I know the 47's are the best lc's along with the 27's there are but I have never seen the Heartland brand rod before has anyone ever used one of these before?
I will mainly use them for long lining since they will be my longest rods in the boat and will reach out to the side the farthest with probably a super line to be able to read the cranks better. If I do use them what should I use as backer line for the super line and should I put more than a 125 yd spool of super line on them for long lining? For my application I really don't need the 47's but they are cheaper here in MN than the 27's and some day I may want to run leadcore or do some downriggin in the future that may require a larger spool capability.
I really like to troll

thanks in advance

I can't really speak for the heartland rods that you are specifically speaking of, however I nkow that diawa used to make a line of rods called heartland. They were a more affordable series. This may part of the same series. Just a thought.

got 4 of the hearland series with the 47lc's on them for salmon,i dont have the superlines on them,i have cortland flea flicker line on them.i have had no problems with the rods, which are the 9 1/2 ft series, which i might ad have brought a few salmon in over 20+ lbs,1 was 39 lbs.

the rods are good, the reels are good too,i have one thats 6 yrs old, hasnt been touched, just new line and a quick spray of blakemores reel magic once or twice a year.

The heartland rod is made for Diawa. I've heard it's a pretty decent rod for the money. Do you recall if the LC47 was a LC47 or was it a SG47LC. If it was just a LC47 that may not be the best of deals. That reel is usually not to high priced. The Sg series is a much better reel although the LC will get you buy in most situations. I know theres a bunch out there that are still working fine. Check prices on just the LC47 if thats what it is.

Like Airwave said...check to see if it's a "SG"47lc or just a regular 47lc. the regular ones are about 69.99 in bass pro.

Also check to see which Diawa Heartland rod series it is. The "S" series is a glass rod while the "X" series is a graphite. "S" goes for about $30 normally and "X" is about $40-45.

Gander Mountain has the same combo for $99 too -- "S" series rod. BPS had the 47 reels on sale for $59 about a month ago. GMtn's regular price on the reel was $79 but they price matched them and sold me the combo at $79 ($20 off).

I run diawa 47lc's on diawa heartland rods for lake michigan salmon and trout. Took several kings over 20 lbs with out a problem. Good luck.
