I own a 1 year old Mercury 50 HP 4 cycle with about 150 hours running time on it. Everything was fine with it last December when I last used it except it was tricky starting it the first time of the day when the temperature was below 40 degrees F. The motor was winterized according to instructions. When I started it today for the first time this season with the water ears on I noticed a ticking noise after it had been running for about 5 minutes. It sounds just like a sticky lifter or a slightly loose rocker arm in a small block chevy motor. I shut the motor off once I noticed the noise because I didn't want to push my luck until I got some input from some other motor heads!! The oil only has 5 hours running time on it and it's full to the mark and clean as a whistle. Do I take it in to the dealer or try and run it out on the lake first to see what happens?? Thanks in advance for any sound advice. Also does the original factory warranty follow the motor or can it be transferred to the second owner on a Mercury??

:D is it time to go fishing yet?? :7

See your dealer for peace of mind. They will either fix it or explain it. Either way, you won't have to wonder anymore. Good luck with it.

I'm pretty sure the warranty transfers. I seem to recall reading on my Merc warranty card to pass it along with the boat if you sell it.
