View Full Version : Lake Reno near Alex.
I have hunted ducks on Reno many times but I have never wet a line. Any advice as to presentation or location for early spring Walleye on this body of water would be great.
Thanks in advance

Excellent choice for walleyes, the fishing has been great the last couple of years. There are two public access on Reno, the west one has the most parking, if you plan on fishing the opener get there early and be prepared for a lot of company. if you have hunted ducks there you probably know that it can get pretty ugly when the wind picks up. The west and NW side seems to be where the majority of the people fish. I would suspect that shallower the better this opener 14 ft or less drifting or slow trolling with Lindy Rigs or some type of live bait presentation. Minnows, leeches and crawlers all work well, but the perch will peck the nightcrawlers to death. Although there are some nice size perch there also. Trolling crankbaits along the outside of the weeds out from the west access has produced some walleyes, but mostly northerns. Let me know how you do. I might be there myself on the opener if it's not too windy. Look for a maroon Starcraft with a walk-thru windshield with a guy with a big smile on his face because he's out doing what he loves for the first time this year.
Check with Mark & Marlene Wagner at the Lake Reno Resort at 320-283-5667 or 800-950-4696. Great place to stay and they know where to catch them!!!
fish the southwest side out from the landing it drops from 14' to 18' in a hurry. fish on the drop at night with leeches or minnows on jigs. or lighted slip bobbers
Thanks for the help. I'll let you know how we did next week.
